Radio Harness wiring

 ·

I just got a new single din android head unit radio to replace the old one in my 05 Ducato.

I have wired it all up and it is working great but one thing is that the screen stays on even when the key is removed from the ignition and now I am afraid that leaving this on will drain the vehicle battery!

I just wired it the same as it was with the red and yellow wires from the new harness connected to just the red on the existing harness.

So anyone know how to wire it so that the unit just gets power when the ignition is on?

Black is fine but for some reason the previous radio was wired with red and yellow from the new harness joined together and then those 2 were attached to just the red on the Ducato harness.
Nothing attached to yellow on the Ducato Harness at all.

I did the same and it works but cannot get it to switch off when the ignition key is out!

If your cig socket switches off with the ignition key, run the yellow wire to it and connect it into the back positive.

The red and yellow are connected together the yellow wire is the on off power feed to the radio it has to be isolated from the permminate red feed there should be acc feed in the van loom

There is a yellow wire in the original harness but when I connect yellow from the original to yellow on the new there is no power going to the radio even when the key is turned.

I have connected just red to red and yellow to yellow and that has not worked, also red and yellow from new to just yellow on original harness and not working either.

Maybe the yellow wire on the original harness is not working and that is why the red and yellow were joined together on the new harness to only the red on the original harness?

I think there are a few posts missing on this topic as well as I replied to some yesterday and earlier today so I think some may have been lost with the forum being down.

Ya my message disappeared as well... THE YELLOW IS NOT IGNITION LIVE!!

The yellow that goes into the back of the radio should be permanent 12v
The red that goes into the back of the radio is your switched/ignition 12v

So run a wire from the fuse box (cig lighter if that turns off with the key) and connect it to the red that goes into the radio.

hope this helps

Might be beyond my capabilities to run a new wire from the cig lighter.

Possibly another solution would be a switch that I could just switch off and on so I must try and get one and then can wire the yellow and red wire into that instead and then that would give me the best of both worlds with the radio fully off when it is parked up at home but then being able to switch it on easily when I am away in it.

Anyone done this have any tips?
