Dear Craicers,

I'm planning about a week holiday with the MH of course and we want to go up to Donegal which we haven't been yet and I hear it's wonderful.

As always, I come for expert advice from you guys to see what would you recommend. We prefer "wild camping" but we would do campsites when necessary, specially if they're recommended.

So fire away please and thank you in advance!

As we live up here I would advise you to start with looking at the programme on RTE "Go outside and Play " the first one is on Donegal. It is available on RTE player. Be sure to visit Inishowen great wee Aire in Buncrana , You could go from Mamore Gap to Kinnego Bay up here in Inishowen we are spoilt for choice and just a wee bit biased.

Love inisowen, we did dunfanaghy across to glenveagh and loved glenveagh, then down the west coast.

You'll fill a week in donegal easy, maybe mention the types of things you like, parks, beaches playgrounds etc to help suggestions :)

There are a few guys on here who may try and convince you that its the greatest place in Ireland, if not on the planet, you are around enough to know the ones I'm talking about, take anything they say with a whole packet of Saxo, ;-) they may even try to disguise their origins :-/ when giving advise :o.

That said if you want wild camping they probably no wilder place in the country. we have gone up that way mostly for diving.
There is a car park above Silver Strand beyond Malin Beg, nice walking/ snorkeling.
Port. end of road carpark looking out to sea, a bit narrow also good cliff walking.
Ardara is a nice little village,

We did a week there last summer. Buncrana Aire is excellent ,close to the town. We also went to the Singing Pub near Downing great beach.. Also stayed at Magheraroarty harbour and took a trip out to Tory Island.

Use the app, some wonderful stops.

Innishowen is lovely, some great wild stops. Great restaurant in Culdaff called McGroarys which is famous for seafood and also for live music. A few spots around town on the app.

Out the west is also very nice, Dunfanaghy town is a nice stop and further round the west of the county you’ll be spoiled for choice with many wilding options. I also second the singing pub in Downings, great food and great music, again it’s all there on the app.

If you’re looking for a site for a night then Travers site in Bundoran in the south of the county is probably one of the best site we’ve stayed in, spotlessly clean and well equipped and the town is a big ‘tourist’ town with lots of live music venues and restaurants.

You’ll easily spend a week in the county, lots to see and scenery to die for.... it’s a big county.....
Enjoy the trip, if you need anything when here then drop us a PM.

You don't need advice. You just need to get up there, it's a great county with so much to offer.

Donegal is without doubt our favourite county (and we're Dubs!).
We've been going to South West Donegal for years- Donegal town, Killybegs, Fintra Beach, Muckross Cliffs, Slieve League, Silver Strsnd Beach and for the music and pubs you can't beat Carrick, Teelin and Glencolmcille. Loads of parking spots on the app.
But wherever you go in the county you'll have a ball, and you'll never have enough time!!

Thanks lads, I'll set those up on my list and start drawing a route. Much appreciated.

Using the app is not even a question, but always good to hear your recommendations. :)

Craicers
They say that Donegal is Ireland in miniature, Inishowen is Donegal in miniature!
I was walking down by the marina in Fahan today: There were 4 campers there it is so quiet and peaceful. Nancy;' Barn in Ballyliffin is famous for its chowder. They won a huge world wide competition there in 2017 !! Firebox Grill great for steak too!!

You see I wasn't wrong, there seems to be three types of people, those who claim to be from, those who wish they were from Donegal. Then those who don't know that they don't know any better.
There is one other from Wexford.

We are currently parked up at a fantastic little spot outside Greencastle
Only ones here sheer bliss.
Have been told its call Sweet Nellie's beach. 20 minutes dander into Greencastle where we enjoyed a few glasses of the black stuff. Now a very tired dog so time for a G&T.

We have been going to Inishowen for many years, even before we had a motorhome to Shroove lighthouse.
Every time we go we always stop off enroute to stock up on clothing. https://m.facebook.com/borderlandmuff/
On Main Street, looks like an old cinema/hall. Outside painted in bright colour. Anyone else ever go there.?
