Putting your lights on could save your life and doesn't cost anything except the energy to turn the switch on, but that's too much effort for alot of people 😡

In some cars the dash lights are always on and I know of people who dont realise their lights arent on because the dash is lit up.

Still no excuse. I see it all the time in fog as well.

One of my pet hates. Newer cars fitted with daytime driving lights also means that some drivers aren't aware that they have no rear lights on.

I recall seeing signs in New York State road 20 years ago that if you needed your wipers then your lights should be on and there were fines for not doing so.

Drove for 3kms flashing a lady (using my bike lights before there's any confusion!!) driving in dark and rain with only the running lights on she was practically invisible from behind! She looked at me like I'd ten heads when I pulled up beside her beeping 😂

On our last 3 RV's the headlights came on as soon as they were put in drive (they're automatic) this must be a legal requirement in the states I guess. Good idea I reckon.

Tho one that gets my goat are idiot's who drive with side light's and fog light's.
What ever happened to fog light's only working with dipped headlight's

Off subject. I sent this to the minister.
( I don't only complain :o :-/ )
I would also like to make a road safety suggestion that might save lives, there are accidents every year, both Fatal and Non-Fatal caused by drivers straying over the centerline of the road. On every motorway, there is a system of ribbed lines yellow on the left and white on the right to alert drivers if they stray outside of the carriageway. I would like to propose that this ribbed system be fitted on the centerlines of every road in the country, to start with all solid white lines and thereafter all broken white lines. In order to alert drivers who may stray over the lines, trough not paying attention and those who are doing it deliberately, how wrong they are
The answer.
In relation to the query on the use of road lines or road markings local authorities and TII are required to follow Relevant Design Standards and Specification. These are set out on the TII Design Standards website www.tiipublications.ie. Such standards and specifications are based on international practice and standards such as ISO. Nonetheless they are regularly being updated and as such we will pass on the suggestion for consideration.

The condition of the cat’s eyes on some of the roads back west are so poor, they can be considered useless. They just do not function at all. I have wondered why in this day and age, that these are not replaced with bright LEDs. Surely it would be so simple to replace the cat’s eyes with LED modules with solar charging built in. At first I thought it might be for aviation safety. Perhaps marked lighting on a road might resemble a runway to aircraft flying over. But then I read about a local authority somewhere in the UK is trialing it. Besides, we are only talking about low wattage LEDs angled at the driver. It doesn’t need to be visible from space.

Do you think this could be rolled out eventually.?

But Cat's Eyes don't need any power the way they are.

I would be more interested in them rolling out Solar Panelled Roads.

But solar power is free and the cats eyes don’t work ( in Galway). It looks likely to roll out in the UK.

Solar road, cool!

I usually remember to put my heads on. But on the old roads they are in terrible condition. If you pass a section of new road, there is no comparison to what you left behind. It’s like night and day. When I say they don’t work, I mean nothing. Not a single photon of reflected light. I think most of the lenses are actually missing. Certainly so on the R336 heading west. And the road markings don’t reflect either. If you didn’t know that road at night, with no moonlight, you’d better take it handy.

Cats eyes only work if you are looking and are designed to show the direction of the road in front of the driver. they will not alert a driver who is dozing, not paying attention or on the phone texting as quick as those remble stripe that is fitted each side of the Motorway, which work no matter what time of day or visibility.
