Question for business owners regarding importing to S Ireland

I'm interested in buying some car parts from the UK.

The seller told me if I have a euro vat number, I can avoid paying UK taxes on the purchase?

Question is, would I be subjected to higher Irish import taxes & duties when bringing parts from UK to Ireland if I chose to avoid paying the UK tax?

Or is this more pre-brexit bullshit...?

Confused.

You probably would, the tax has to be paid somewhere IMO

If you have a genuine VAT number you can ask but not all suppliers will accommodate you in this, if they do you are then legally bound to declare it to the Revenue Commissioners and then pay the relevant rate to them. Who charges more for VAT on the goods UK or Ireland as once tax/duty is paid in one EU country you dont then have to pay it in another.

From the horses mouth
https://www.revenue.ie/en/vat/…ation.aspx

Important bit

Input credit in your VAT return for VAT on imported goods

You are entitled, as a VAT registered trader, to take credit for VAT paid on goods imported for the purposes of your business.

If the goods imported are for your business you have to declare them in your VAT3 but you don't pay the VAT

If you have a Southern Ireland vat number you don’t pay the 20% UK vat on the items coming in, but if you were to resell them on you would have to charge the 23% Irish vat and return it to revenue in Ireland.
