Just in case (International Driving Permit)

As I am planning a trip to Germany in May and still unsure what will happen after the 29th of March I decided to get myself an International Driving Permit today. If it turns out that we all must have one then there could be delays, so....armed with my photocard licence, a photo of myself and my £5.50 I headed off to my nearest post office, no problems at all, it only took about five minutes in total but I was a little surprised to find out that they only issue them until the date that your licence expires, in my case, next June as I have to renew my licence now every three years. Still charged £5.50. So be warned if anyone is going for one.

I read on the gov uk site that there are three types of International Driving Permit,1926 ,1949,and 1968. If driving in France or Germany it's a 1968 IDP but Spain would be a 1949 IDP.

Even if the actually go for it, it will take a few months to actually be widely implemented and surely they'll be some concessions while in transitory process, they can't just cut it off overnight.

That's of course in my opinion.

Fair play to you for planning ahead though, it's always the best way to do it.

That might be true Rami. In fact I think we might be having these conversations for years to come, but business will drive certain things faster than legislation. If insurance companies suddenly are not honoring claims because of a lack of a green card or the wrong licence, then you can be sure there will be a flurry of new applications.

The NDLS offices (down south) are packed due to a surge of demand for new applications to swop U.K. licences for ROI ones. And that’s all predicted on advice from the department that says “If in a no deal scenario ....”

Fail to plan and you are planning to fail.

I contacted Dolmen's today for a Green card. as the the Poli-Tick said in the Dail yesterday that the department sent out nearly a million cards to the insurance company's, I decided to get myself one.
The answer.
For €25 they can send me a hard copy. Question. why am I paying if the Government sent them out.
Answer. on the instructions of the insurance company.
But,Dolman's can email me the card for free and then I must print it on green paper both sides with no white margins
I'll let you know how I get on.
