Looking for advice from experienced Spain tourers
We’re arriving in Cherbourg Monday in June heading down to Spain for the Friday to meet our daughter working in Santa Susanna and tossa de mar. We wanted to go through Pyrenees so what would be the best/nicest town/place to cross the border we are in a burstner 7meter motorhome and if any nice campsite or Aires you would recommend
Thanks in advance

Most direct route would be, Caen > Le Mans > Tours > Poitiers > Limoges > Toulouse > Perpignon > Girona

If in a rush you can use motorways, if touring the same route can be followed using non toll roads but it will take an extra few days.
Option one has great views of concrete and tarmac, option two has great views of real France.

Crossing the France/Spain border using the D914/N260 from Argeles-sur-Mer to Figueres is a spectacular drive :o

When you decide which route your taking and time of day you arrive in Cherbourg it will be easier to recommend stops although see my link above. The Pyrenees are nice we have over nited on many Col's particularly liking it around Laruns you can cross back into France at Col del Portalet and there's a nice stop at Artouste and I'd recommend the Train ride into the mountains HERE Part way down to Laruns from the col

Sounds amazing we have Monday to Friday to get to border as our daughter only has weekends off but we have 10 days to go back up to Cherbourg so might do that on way back👍

Here's a [url=

]Utube Link[/url] for the train Free Aire with services at the base station so overnighting is possible

That’s a definite, we have decided to make Poitiers our first stop so averaging about 5/6 hours driving each day and then Thursday and Friday around Perpignan into Spain Friday evening, I’d love more time to explore that region but unfortunately not this time.

Apart from the usual guides, I would strongly recommend https://campingcarpark.com/en/.
You can join online and avail of their secure Aires and their new https://campingcarpark.com/en/camping-de-mon-village/ which are municipal campsite open to motorhomes 24/7/356
They also have advance booking for both the Aires and the Campings

I would also recommend Carcassonne, we how ever stayed on an aire beside the campsite and walked along the river to get to the walled city.
co ords 43.200010, 2.353101

we also noticed campers parked up at 43.206336, 2.358530

Col de Soulor large carpark no services cafe an shops at col. Arans Marsous aire with services village with shops, Lac d' Estraing lake side parking with cafe and shops at top end.

The Laruns to Sabiñánigo route is a spectacular drive, We did it in early June a few years ago and there was still melting snow on the land at the side of the road.
We travelled south to north (Spain to France) and the views were amazing. North to south would definitely be more challenging though on the French section and most of that section has the drop on the 'west' side of the road (travelling north you're on the cliff side ^_^ but travelling south you're on the 'drop' side o.O
