Have stayed there on numerous occasions including last weekend with no issues. AFAIK the harbour master has no problem with overnight parking as long as there is no littering

I would reckon so.
This topic is open now for over 48 hours and no one has produced credible evidence to suggest that the docklands is closed for parking.

This may or may not, have an effect on the parking on the dock.
I know it is at the other side of the dock but a lot of workers will be Employed on it. So a lot of coming and going of heavy lorries Etc. :-|

That is too far away to be too noisy or a nuisence to MH parked on the Docks Tom as there is aprtments and homes closer to the site, working times granted by planning will have strict times etc

Sadly Facebook is occasionally correct. Photos of No Camper Van signs are on Facebook in Galway Docks carpark.

What about the car park beside the Harbour Hotel that belongs to the Port Company?

I have phoned the Harbour co and they have confirmed that parking of campers /motorhomes is banned. Apparently they have 4 legal cases at the moment and new co has decided they are not worth the trouble. Might in the future provide motorhome parking but no plans yet. Contact no is 091561874 option 3 . Might do no harm if more people phoned.

Abuse a place and they won’t be long showing us the door. Ongoing problems with people stuffing rubbish in the bins a main reason why we are out. A crying shame. Sometimes we are our own worst enemies

thats really a terrible shame. We loved it there. There was a really nice Xmas atmosphere last year. Was able to visit an aunt in hospital also. Dog loved the walks etc. Christmas shopping was a million times less hassle than Dublin. I wonder what the legal cases might be. Fender benders maybe. Once we stayed in the car park close by, it was cheaper actually than parking on the road, but space very tight, and we actually ended up stuck in there not able to exit until late in evening. It was the Race weekend. I was amazed that we could pony up there compared to the hotel room rates. Really a terrible pity.

Any suggestions of places to (preferably) wildcamp and get a bus in?

I saw a similar request for info on Galway parking today. I think it might have been you Peterd66, so I will give my reckoning on what I see, usually on the Salthill prom , 2 km outside Galway town. I regularly walk or run the prom. I know there has been a clamp down on MH parking since the days of the Volvo Ocean Race, but to be honest, I don’t think I have noticed any signage against motorhome parking. Perhaps it has all calmed down. I certainly see MH parked up on the prom and by leisure land park. It is hard to say if a few are staying overnight or not, although I have spotted some that have. It is a long road that stretches from Blackrock In Salthill, along the prom and onto the Grattan Road at the town end. I would be surprised if people are not overnighting regularly.

That said, don’t blame me if it doesn’t work out for you. I will try take a proper look for signage tomorrow and report back what I see.

The signage is located in the car parks of the aquarium and further down that road where Galway Business School is.
There is street side parking along the prom there but it is a busy road for sleeping.
From memory at the back of leisureland there is a pay and display car park. Around leisureland is only for customers

Galway are using the LOCAL GOVERNMENT (SANITARY SERVICES) ACT, 1948 for the enforcement of the anti motorhome parking regulations. The Act was enacted, as the title says to regulate Sanitary Services and contains a section to control the erecting or placing of temporary dwellings, referencing the impact such may have on public health and pollution because of unregulated sewage outflows.
Considering motorhomes are fully self-contained vehicles which would not be in breach of the above Act any prosecution referencing the Act could not succeed.
Any parking regulations can only be based on the need to control traffic and ensure free and safe circulation of vehicles.

There may well be signage down at the auquarium car parks, but those car parks have height barriers anyway. The stretch of the prom down past the aquarium close to the Claude Park and opposite the business school looks good too. In fact the whole prom does, if a little passing traffic doesn’t bother you. Get ear plugs and I wouldn’t spend more than one night in the same spot.

The stretch of Rockbarton road which runs perpendicular to the prom, between Leisure Land and Salthill Park, looks like a good spot. You would see a learner driving bus parked up for the night regularly and the odd truck. You would also see the odd MH overnighting during the season. In fact I was down at The Waterboys gig in Leisureland back in November. There was a campervan parked for the night, obviously a punter of the gig, and was still there when I went down to collect me car in the morning.

Ok, I just took a spin down to Salthill and I can confirm there are ‘No Motorhome’ signs on the prom. I never really paid attention to them before. So anyone wishing to park there, do so at your own risk 😬

Thanks Rambler.
I wasn't sure about that because it's usually my wife and kids visit Galway when I'm working.
