It's hard to believe it's 40 years since this disaster happened. I remember it well, I was working in Little Island in Cork at the time and the brother of one of my work colleagues was one of those killed in the explosion. I never knew that this video existed until I came across it by accident yesterday. Interesting to compare the shortcommings in health and safity then to the over the top approach to H&S today. At 30:57 there's a guy walking along the deck with a very interesting piece of lifting equipment.

During the period 1969 to 1973 I worked for a company which supplied duty-free stores. Every week I was on one or other of the V.L.C.C's. which served the terminal. H&S in those days was the advice to 'mind how you go' and 'don't smoke'

IMHO the Betelgeuse should have been in the scrapyard and not still in use.
