E.U. travel permit

It was announced today that everyone from UK will need a permit to visit any European Country and it will cost £7 and last for 3 years. Now will that Permit also be needed to transverse the Border here ? OR. Will it be a case of those with an Irish Passport ,pulling the green hardback out of the inside pocket flashing it and singing as they pass by.... You cant touch me, Im part of the union...as they merrily go south of the border down Monaghan way.

Why not keep this great forum for Motorhome discussions and let the politicians sort out the rest?

This is not politics, this has been announced today by Brussels, whilst it doesn't affect people from the south ,it does apply to people like me and others who have to transverse the frontier. Also to people who holiday in Europe.

All fine and well folks but just remember this we country that we live in, it is not to difficult to find someone who is easily offended.
If I am on the wrong wave then I will back off.

I know what you mean and usually you would be correct. But I think the topic is just stating facts and not whether it's right or wrong.

Easily offended? I must send you some of the complaints I get for posts on MHC, I wouldn't do that of course but some are interesting. A tiny minority of people go out of their way to be offended these days.

I don’t think it will affect us Paddy, ROI not part of the Schengen zone and I think the ruling will be for traveling in and out of Schengen. May affect those from UK or on British passports spending more than 90 days in any 180 days in Europe...... but that is actually case now anyway.
It’ll sort itself out buddy, don’t worry.

As I understand it the proposed new system will be applicable from next March if there is no Brexit deal or from the end of the transition period if there is a deal and it will only apply to those travelling on a UK passport. It is basically the same system as already applies to non EU citizens.

The Euro 7 fee will only come into play in 2021 when the EU introduce ETIAS which really has nothing to do with Brexit, it is more to do with EU security.

This link makes it quite clear that the maximum period is 90 days in any rolling period of 180 days.
http://europa.eu/rapid/press-release_IP-18-6402_en.htm

There is a calculator which is used to calculate whether the period has been exceeded
https://ec.europa.eu/home-affairs/content/visa-calculator_en

https://ec.europa.eu/home-affa…ual_en.pdf

stays greater than 90 days presently says you should apply for residency of that state..... never enforced though.
May be a problem after a no deal brexit though for UK passport holders.
N.Ireland residents can obtain a ROI passport anyway, problem solved.

Thinking outside the box on this one.
Is the added hassle on getting an irish passport on the the strengths of having a long lost grand auntie a cheaper cost, and less worry about your lenght of stay?
I am posting this for debating purposes but NOT to stir the pot.

There seems to be a bit of a difference though in that the 90days under the ‘visa waiver’ is the total in all Schengen countries while the residency is in one country.

In any case it won’t affect me as, at present, I don’t go for more than 90days and the ROI passport application is already in.

I’m just glad I was born in Donegal and even though I’ve been living in NI for the past 50 years I’ve still got an Irish Passport and I will hold on to it I can tell you. 😆

Lads. Calm down. Ireland is not in the Shengen agreement. It’s ok, we still want ye, even if England doesn’t.
That last bit was a joke... the rest is factual. You will never be stopped from coming south 👍

If they shoe were on the other foot and Ireland was leaving the EU, I would have no hesitation in obtaining a UK passport as my mother is English...

I just could never see anything great about using the euphemism “Great” in your country title. A bit egotistical in my view.

Point taken, but NI is not part of GB.

Now there’s a question. Saw somewhere that coming from France in future might be like coming from Tenerife now with a restricted allowance. Hope this doesn’t mean no wine and an empty garage coming home.

Very different.

GB is England Scotland and Wales.

UK includes NI

UK - The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland.

Britanny in France means little Britain.

It's Great Britain in the sense that it's bigger and not being self-aggrandisement.

If you're in Cork or Kerry you're in the British Isles.

Once Christmas and New Year are out of the way, things get very, very serious I reckon. Panic in the streets if no deal is met.

Aren't we keeping the Common Travel Area between UK and ROI? That should mean we have freedom of travel, and other stuff, between us....I thought....

Norma, not if we leave without a deal, I wonder why the Romans, when they got to Holyhead looked across and said, "We have enough of problems in our Empire without going there" when the next chariot back to Londinium ?

and what did they ever do for us..... 😜
Romans aside, I thought the Common Travel Area superseded all the Brexit stuff as it had existed before either of us had joined the e.u. and had simply been reconfirmed by both govts....wouldn't put money on it though....
had a lovely time in Donegal this summer...not a Roman in sight!
