Warranty expired 3 months ago

As per the topic heading the 2 year warranty on my 162 motor home expired in September. This morning I learned that the entire dashboard light unit needs to be replaced as some of the bulbs are faulty. I discovered this recently as the oil and battery lights were not going out fully on the dashboard. They remained visible by about 30%, never going out. I thought it was strange but never imagined the shock I got this morning when told by the Fiat dealership where i get the van serviced that to replace the sealed unit would be €1,080. And that as the warranty has expired there was nothing they could do. They suggested contacting Fiat. Has anybody had anything similar happen to them and have you had any joy with Fiat. Needless to say I'm gutted by this as the choice is either ignore the dashboard lights or stump up €1000 to replace the unit.

Thanks folks, much appreciated. It certainly looks as if Fiat are aware of the problem.

Thanks for the help folks. Looking at what info is available on this issue it seems it's well known.
I suspect like a lot of these things I'm going to have to fight my corner.

I wish you all the best with Fiat but I wouldn’t hold my breath if I were you from my experience?

Have you had the vehicle serviced by a Fiat Professional dealer within the first two years? In any event, I would start with raising a case with Fiat Professional customer care and go from there.

I also have a 2016 FIAT and although the warranty is 2yrs the camper assist cover is 3 yrs for vans bought from uk dealer. Not sure if its the same for ROI. Anyway; I recently had mine serviced and I enquired as to what would happen if something serious showed up now van is out of warranty. The FIAT Professional dealership that did the service told me that they had the option to offer a "considerable goodwill discount" during the 3rd year. Maybe something worth checking.

The first thing is to contact Fiat Ireland, not sure who they are now, with the Harris boys gone, or Fiat UK.
Give them your VIN number, found on your log book. Asked them for a list of recalls based on your VIN number.
If no joy, hit them for "good will" warranty work.
Also don't be afraid of hitting the mh dealer either, they were the seller.
Dealers servicing Italian vehicles hate warranty work because, they are only refunded €37 per hour for their work. It's more profitable to bill the customer instead.
Best of luck.
Malcolm

Contacted Fiat Professional (in Italy) and dealership. Fiat mentioned in passing about goodwill but that's just the lad taking the call. Have to wait and see what happens. If I purchase the unit from Cartronix can anybody recommend a good auto electrician that would fit it?

Don't think you would need an electrician, but someone to remove the unit and refit it when you get it back

On my last motorhome the clutch started to slip some 18 months out of warranty. As the vehicle had been serviced with Fiat from new, at my local Fiat Professional workshop they fought my corner with Fiat, saving me a considerable amount of money. The dealer explained it was only possible to approach Fiat as I had maintained the service schedule even after the stipulated warranty period, which in the case of my vehicle was 3 years. My experience shows it is worth keeping the books stamped, and using the same workshop. Your service manager should be doing more for you.

Great support folks, many thanks. As mentioned previously I contacted Fiat, who have been back to me to say that they have been on to the Fiat garage in Rathnew where I get the van serviced. They have discussed it with them, gotten details of the part required, amount of labour etc. They'll now escalate the case and come back to me early next week. So far so good, let's see what comes out of this. The one thing is that Fiat customer service have been very much on the ball and at least you get the sense that they give a sh#t. The proof will be in the pudding.

Just a quick update on this to say that after a bit of round the houses on this light cluster issue, Fiat have stumped up nearly €700 on the cost of the part as a goodwill gesture. Instead of the job costing €1080 inc. fitting it's now €393 fitted. Not a bad days work, just a bit of perseverance with Fiat.

Good for you.
Have they upgraded the unit, to prevent similar from happening again?

To be honest I really don't know, I'm just happy to get the new unit at the reduced cost.
