We are at Tullymore Forest Park this week end. It’s amazing the number of units here 3 other motorhomes and about 4 caravans. I much prefer here this time of year when it’s quiet although it was quite rough last night and also this evening.

Fully agree with you there Jack,we use it ourselves during the winter when it is more relaxed.
Great location, good walks and handy to town.

Tullach or tuile in Irish is a low mound and mor means big.

So it's a large, low mound or hillock.

Often rendered as Tullymore or as in Tullamore Co. Offaly and many other places.

Ain't no "y" in Irish.

I’ve told Ally to sort out this programme as it never gets my posts right but he just ignores me. 😝 😝. One thing I do know and that’s I’m always right. 😂

There are many places on this island where there are different spellings of place names.

Bunmahon and Bonmahon in Waterford are the same place.

This might give some insight into it https://www.logainm.ie/en/s?txt=tullymore&str=on

You have to remember when these place names were recorded few could read and write so the spelling was at the behest of the recorder.

It's a pity that they didn't take the opportunity to widen the pitches when they tarmac'd Tollymore and Castlewellan campsites lately, a bit of levelling would of helped Castlewellan also.

Gosford is being taken over by the council in the new year so that will be overpriced with facilities we don't need. Also the Touring in the Trees part closed. Tollymore is going to be going the same way, so that'll be ruined and overpriced with more facilities we don't need. It'll please a lot of caravanners but if campsites don't want Aires then they need to be thinking of the two different types of tourists, Motorhome owners and Caravan owners.

We have been twice to Tollymore since work was done, in summer at busiest time and a quiet time, We went to same pitch which was wider and level and curved for easier driving in, tap near us. Nigel particularly loves it as mountains on doorstep. We did have to book and pay in full in advance ,which makes it less flexible if weather turns bad. I don’t know if it willl be busy over Christmas and New Year.
Last time there rangers still had no idea when booking on line would be available...ny update?

We stayed in Tollymore quite recently and the rangers didn't even have a phone as some twit had tried to burn their office out.
