Domestic water pump 12v

Last few times out wasn't impressed with the water flow, particularly the shower.
We had the same issue when we bought Daisy two and a half years ago.
A friend who is into boats and very handy swapped the pump and there was an improvement.

I'm working my way through the list of jobs and I bought a new Reich 19 lt/min twin pump, same as the original.

Just installed it and still not impressed. I've bled the air out of the system. Anything I should be looking out for?

I see a lot of the newer vans have pumps with 30-40 litre per minute. I changed my Fianma Aqua 8 to a shurflow because it was very noisy. They were both 20 litre/ minute, but the difference in pressure was huge. Much better. They must drop in performance with age. Like us all.
I just wonder is there a blockage anywhere or a kink in a pipe, because a new pump should be good

My thoughts exactly. It's 19 l/min that's over 4 gallons a minute in old money at 1.4 bar.

There's a flip over lever type valve beside the frost valve. Any idea what it's for?

Offhand no. A photo might help, someone will probably know and be along shortly. It’s not for draining the system ??
If you had room and a piece of pipe, you could connect outlet of pump to it, and to outside, power it up and compare the flow rate.
I was nervous of going for a higher rated pump in case it blew off a connection somewhere. Older vans were designed for your 19-20 litre rating, mostly

That's why I changed like for like. I'll take a pic in the morning and upload it.

I know sometimes they can be wired backwards but I've tried that. I've gone with brown + to brown and blue to blue (common sense) but it's german built so maybe their logic is different.

I saw that video of the pump in the bucket, that's on the list for morning.

At a guess I’d say your logic on the wiring is correct, I’d imagine the pump would run backwards if wiring was reversed and then you would get no water

If I were you I would follow all the hoses and check for sharp bends or kinks. is there any difference between the taps, hot or cold and the shower.

Cold is ok, I've bled the boiler and there's a flow but not good enough for a shower.

Sounds like a blockage from the boiler, did you put any tape on the joints when fitting the pump. it's easy to restrict the flow with a bit of PTFE tape.
Can you put a hose onto the boiler outlet and run it back into the holding tank let it run for a while you might still have an airlock

Also check the taps at the end of the spout where the water comes out, some taps have a screen / filter either screwed or clipped in to help water flow and or to catch debris. Stupid idea if you ask me as they can become clogged. I had a problem with the ones in another camper so I just dumped them and flow improved immensely.

The flow could be restricted by a clogged inline filter, if there is one.
The flip valve is probably for draining the system, it's usually separate from the automatic dump valve which protects the boiler from frost damage.

It's a possibility, we don't have hard water here but we fill up as required around the country.

Plenty for me to check out in the morning.

Thanks lads

Is it a submersible pump

Do you know how cold a water tank can be in this weather? Had to warm my cuppa up twice just to thaw my hands out.

I'll give it a shot in the morning.

Anyone know where I can buy a meter or two of 10mm braided food grade hose in the Dublin / North Wicklow area?

We had the same problem with our van when we got it, Turned out to be sand in the water tank and it was blocking the filters on the taps, I removed the filters from the taps and the flow was perfect, then I cleaned out the tank.

I am presuming that your fresh water tank is under a bench seat. Under the mh where the tank is located, there should be a lever type sluice valve to drain the water. Dump the water.
Remove the cushions and then the plywood cover. On the top of the tank there should be a 6 inch wide screw cap. After opening it, feel the bottom of your tank and if you feel a sand type substance, it is lime buildup. The feed pipe to pump is probably from the top of your tank, so when you have your hand in tank, feel the lifter pipe from the top down to the bottom. The bottom may be encrusted, but should chip off with your nails. This encrusting will affect the volume of water available to the pump.
Unfortunately if you have lime build up, the solution is a lot of eblow grease. Mop out the remaining water, then using something like wire wool scrub the inside of your tank to loose the limescale before hoovering out the residue. There are chemical removers available, but personally I don't like them.

Distilled or white wine vinegar is great for cleaning out limescale you'll need 5 to 15 litres of it, try to get it into all your system, pump direct from container if possible, leave overnight and a good flushing of the system should get rid of the limescale and vinegar this is a non chemical cleaning method
PS. I think you may have a kink on the way to your shower as has been mentioned

Vingear is the best limescale cleaner but does mrs eirebus complain about the vingear smell afterwards?
Maybe I don't flush it out enough.

Outcome.

I fitted the new pump. I replaced the hose in the tank area. I removed the no return valve as the pump has one. Excellent water flow all round.

Looks like the non return valve was iffy as the before and after flow was greatly improved. I'll pick one up and have it to hand if it becomes an issue.

Thanks for all the input.
