We have stayed on the docs twice and it’s an excellent place to stay. Would be terrible if they stopped campers parking or increased the costs.
I can never understand people leaving rubbish outside bins if it’s full. They wouldn’t leave it outside their own house if their wheelie bin was full!
Makes my blood boil! 🤬

Well, They have notified people in fairness,

I have seen similar in Cobh in the past, small openings on the bin top seems to have sorted that as far as know,

Isnt it the usual few bad apples that spoil it for all,

At the risk of been hung upside down, maybe the cheapest solution here is to remove the bins all together.
Responsible mh, will bring their rubbish home and the suspected fly tippers will move else where.
The risk of losing a prime city centre parking spot needs to be addressed quickly.

Was speaking to the Harbour master and he is trying his best to keep this place clean of rubbish but at a huge cost of bringing in extra workers at weekend
Saw a guy today pulling the sealed plastic bag covering the EHU point and thought he’d just use it anyway So what signal is that showing for the rest of us who abide by the rules

Couldn't agree more Malcolm. The problem could be if bins are removed the irresponsible motorhomers, of which there are a few, will still leave their rubbish behind. But as you said I would rather see bins removed if it helped the situation.

Fair play to the harbour master. We even bring our recycling home, as well as our normal rubbish. I'd be fekkin' furious if people started leaving rubbish in my street.

I think it is near time the government in the south caught itself on and provided a proper rubbish collection and recycling system for both residents and the public domain.

What a decent, civilised letter from the harbourmaster.
I can't imagine a response like that ever happening in Blighty!
Have never stayed there but hope it stays open, it sounds great.
It does make you wonder if it is other people too, leaving their rubbish....

You not fare off ,Dunlaire Rathdown CoCo. removed the bins from parks with the result on having cleaner parks, no complaints of overflowing bins on Sundays and Bank Holidays
and no overtime paid to empty and clean mess from overflowing bins.
They got plenty of complaints and the answer was .if you brought it why should we have to bring it away.

I had a quick look on camper contact app for Galway Docks.
Rubbish bin availability is listed in the facilities section.
I have posted a review highlighting that these bins are not for motorhomes rubbish.
For those who are not familiar with camper contact , it is one of the main parking apps used across main land Europe.
Hopefully this will help.

I walked the prom in Salthill today. The only 2 bins I saw the old black bins near the toilets past the diving boards. All the rest have been removed, and I saw no litter on the ground so it seems to be working people are holding on to the litter.

The underlying problem here down south is the fact that ALL refuse collection has been contracted out to private companies who charge householders and others for collections and also by weight.
Unlike places like France, the UK and others the service is not covered by local rates or taxes, which facilitates the placement of bins in public areas.

IF councils were to provide bins at motorhome parking places, like Galway Docks, local would use them to reduce or eliminate their charges.
For us 'locals' it's possible to take our refuse home but foreign tourists, and Irish tourists away from home of more than a few days, are snookered.

If you are on a 3 or 4 week tour in Ireland it's impossible to take your rubbish home.

Here's a solution for the international visitors to use, when in Galway.
https://www.citybin.com/for-home/drop-off/
€4 for a black sack.

Most of the Irish inner cities operate a prepaid tag bag collection system because most high street retailers haven't got room for wheelie bin storage so they use a tagged bag which collected at night a few times a week. Usually it's local corner shop/ newsagents that sell these bags.

These are a great help and more of them are needed around the country..
..
https://repak.ie/for-home/facilities-search/
..
https://bigbin.ie/locations/

Both these links are in the maps section here on Mhc..

Repak is only for recyclables and Bigbin only operates south of a line between Limerick and Wexford.
Still no options for those with 'black bag' waste in the rest of the country.
Responsible waste disposal remains a headache for tourists in motorhomes.

We have used recycling centres when over there. I think most of them take black bags of rubbish 3-4 euro per bag.

Was there last Friday, no issues whatsoever. Plenty of vans parked and everything looked clean except a few bottles and but those were from the young lads coming from the pub to the apartments on that same street.

CCTV, signs, name and shame. It's the only way.
