Cobh fresh water

Filled up with fresh water yesterday (Saturday) at Cobh Aire. Boiled the kettle this morning for coffee and it tasted vile. Then when having a shower there was a strong odour from the water. It’s like a strong smell of bleach or chlorine or something like that. I haven’t put anything in the tank so it’s not that. I’ve also filled up at other locations without a problem. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this at Cobh. 🤔

The local councils dose chlorine in the mains supply, From time to time time a little extra gets added for some reason.
Its common on all mains supplies not just Cobh,
Fill a jug and let it sit for 2 hours and the chlorine will evaporate, at least that will do the tea,
A dash of chlorine through the pipe work of the MH is good also as it will keep the system clean,
The level you are talking about is probably 1 or 2ppm (parts per milliion)

We have always used tap water for washing, cooking and making tea/coffee, other that we use something out of a can or bottle to slake the thirst :P
Although there have been exceptions in foreign lands where the local water was decidedly dodgy.

There's 2 taps in Cobh.
One says "not drinking water"

Is there not some kind of hoop around the drinking water tap to prevent toilet cassettes contaminating the tap

You would need to be a right eejit to fill your fresh water tank from the black waste side. Which I didn’t do. It’s clearly marked. Both taps are also fed from the same supply so if you were such an eejit the water wouldn’t smell or taste any different, but not very hygienic. Maybe one is still and the other is sparkling.

Likewise we also carry bottles of freshwater for drinking but have always found the tap water fine for boiling for tea/coffee and cooking. Cohh water has been an exception.

This is not water from Cobh Aire but same problem.
We were home for few days and went away with same water and topped up in Caherdaniel.
I felt water smelt if TCP.
Home again last weekend, dumped fresh water tank. Flushed through pipes, boiler etc, let more water through before putting plug in and filling up with our home water. Still smells as bad, we would normally use this water when boiled for tea normally fine but since last week we have been using bottled water even for boiling.

Must use a food grade hose, usually blue in colour or perhaps clear.
Garden hose is ok for a while until it starts to break down, it then releases all sorts of nasty 'flavours'.

If it was heavily chlorinated water you got in Cobh.it will take a while to get the taste out of all the plastic in the Van, Try filling the system with a warm Bread ( Baking ) Soda (bicarbonate of soda ) mix and pump it trough from your various taps to your tank, using the same water hose you fill with. leave the water hose full and the tank for a long as you can. do a taste test after a few days.

We used the Cobh water while parked at Kinsale. 🤢 We then moved on to Sneem and emptied the fresh water tank at Sneem and refilled. Bad smell and taste gone.
