Depending on what part of the country you are in the aerial will have to be either Vertically / or Horsential, and you will have to point it to the nearest mast and re-tune the telly, plus make sure the booster box is turned on. Also have a look at you're house aerial and point in that direction.

Tom is right, sometimes if you are between masts, the receiver will jump from one to another, resulting in signal lost. If you move ten feet or even turn the van around the signal stabilises.
We automatically re tune at every stop.
On our tv, there is a soarveiw status bar shown on each channel change. Usually we need over 70% signal to be successful.

If its exactly 3 mins every time id check the power supply to the antenna as it sounds like it may time out at 3 mins,

But id do as Malcolm suggests and see how it goes

If the signal times out after three minutes I would be inclined to think the problem is electronic and not related to location/ position of aerial. When the problem occurs, will power cycling your antenna/ booster system restore reception (for three minutes at least)? Or do you need to let the system rest for a while?

Thanks for all the help
It appears that the problem was with aerial it may have been damp and with the warm weather may have dried out as it is working ok now

Status type aerial

I have come across the problem of Picture Loss after a short while before [ my aerial is a Teleplus 2 , which is similal ]
The cable inside the pipe - at the top- is bent very sharpely , in time the inner cable breaks. It is easily replaced.
This is not to say that the other suggestions are in any wrong , they are all possible.

Seen this thread and thought I might jump in with a question.
I tried to connect the tv to the dish on the roof of the hymer and plugged it in. tv working but not getting any stations. Am i missing something? I just assumed the dish is there, its connected to 220v and away you go.
Apparently not. Going to google it, but if theres something im not doing, feel free to educate me.

Do you need a satellite box to process the signal?

that i dont know Mal. There is a box on the wall beside the cable is, but there are no lights on, and it dosent look like there is life in it. Do i need to switch on the satellite dish?
Even printing that looks stupid, but i really dont know.

If it’s a self seeking dish, you will need to switch it on alright, just until it gets a signal. Speaking of which, are you sure the dish was aligned correctly. Also as Malcolm said your tv may not have a decoder built in, even if it has, had you the tv switched to Satellite or Dtv
