I saw an article on reuters this morning where the yanks have threatened to invade/"stabilise" Syria which of course kicked crude prices through the roof.... How long before we'll see the result of that BS on the forecourt...

yip...came back on sunday from alps after ski trip...prices went up last autumn after a duty hike. Cheapeast I got was 1.31 in a Carrefour garage in Bourg-en-Bresse. Thankfully we were in car not our car not our knaus so one tank got us from bourg en bresse to North Wales!! Not looking forward to fueling the knaus traveller in the summer... a big change from previous years. We usually do big miles but this year we will be cutting the driving way down to make the trip less costly.

Just travelled up from Pau this morning, autoroute prices around 1.57 to 1.59 for diesel, just paid 1.42 at a Casino supermarket in Longville sur Mer, which is normally very cheap, on my way down at the end of March it was 1.37 in the same Casino.. Zut alors! !!

I knew you would get your own back, but I didn't think anyone would step that low ,you nearly gave me another Heart Attack.
When can I get off this boat I think I park in Fred place for the week, I should nearly have enough diesel to get to Cherbourg on the 3rd.

I heard on the radio last week crude oil had gone over 80 dollars a barrel for the first time in 4 years they mentioned it would take approx 2 months to hit here looks like it’s getting here quicker than that ! ( I hope I have all details correct)

Hopefully this all blows over quickly , although I know how quickly diesel goes up and takes forever to come down, having our first trip to France in August don’t fancy spending a fortune on diesel

If heading to France check THIS SITE , it's a government site for fuel prices and unlike Pumps.ie it's obligatory for all retailers to show current prices

I was talking to a haulier today and his projection it for at least 20% rise in the next 2 months for diesel.
That going to make driving quite expensive but I suppose that we will have to suffer it.

The talk in France today is that they want to get rid of Diesel altogether outside of commercial use and at currently price of 1.45 to 1.56 its only starting.

Are Petrol and Diesel two derivatives of crude oil?

As crude oil is refined petrol, diesel and other products are drawn off at different temperatures.

So if there is petrol for cars, then there must be diesel for us compression/ignition users.

Could be wrong of course.

From reading Malcolms post I think what Malcolm is trying to get across is that diesel will not be in short supply, But the french government or who ever does not want diesel used in anything other than commercial use,
So what they could do is let say trucks use it and give a rebate to buy it,
Where john joe soap will get the price doubled but no rebate for non commercial use,
Then people will be changing to petrol or even electric as they want,

Does anyone have experience of lpg being used in a diesel engine. There are companies selling kits. Is this too good to be true?

We converted a scania to run on gas, it doesn’t work the way a petrol car does by switching one off then running completely on gas, the diesel versions have to run on a mix of diesel and gas continually, this is to do with compression and ignition. While it was cheaper to run the actual recovery costs were never recovered in the savings. The other issue we had was done garages refused to work on the lorry due to the presence of gas/tank etc

A Little comment, when I worked in Holland in 1967 everybody ran on LPG, mercs were the favourite car to convert but that gave way to diesel as the engines got better. All fuels have been around since the 1900s including electric lorries and steam cars. They are now working on batteries in cars that charge as fast, as time taken to fill with normal fuel. We will progress on with our usual propulsion until that battery is perfected and in the meantime every government and oil producer will screw the motorist, for as much as they can and that will include electric power when other fuels decline. Where else can they get a ready made cash cow and that includes councils

Just to carify, my source was responding to a question about his future buying options.
It's easy for us rocking up to buy our next fill of diesel, but when you are buying €10,000 of diesel per month, you will closely examine the future market.
Sorry if I burst some people's short term views.

I wonder are any of the major MH builders experimenting with electric or hybrid propulsion.

MH's spend a lot of time parked up collecting power either from EHU or solar and then often make a relatively short journey.
For longer journeys, a hybrid system would provide charging from a high-efficiency petrol engine, the electric motor providing the lowdown torque to start and keep the weight moving.

I'm thinking of a powertrain like that used in diesel/electric applications where the combustion engine is part of a generator set and not directly driving the wheels.

BMW is an example of a manufacturer who provides plug-in hybrids, where the vehicle can run on battery alone but the engine provides backup when the batteries run down or power beyond the capability of the electric motor is called upon.
The electric motor is in series with the engine.

The Irish version is a big tank on the roof collecting rain water and run it off through a turbine to get power 😁😁

Eirbus, what about big sail up on the roof and a little winder down beside the driver so the mast can be lowered to go under low bridges and filling stations. After all it got Columbus to America and he didn't need a green card to get in

Saw one if them today , going along the road outside Tours,I think it might have doubled as a Sat dish. it was about a meter wide sticking up above the roof ,

Sprinter you may well have a good idea there. Most of us have a sat dish on the roof so why not make it do two jobs in so much that when you have a tail wind it could be tuned to take advantage and save half the fuel. If the overall height is under 16ft.6in you will clear all the motorway bridges. Then when you park you have a super sat dish.

Fuel prices are dearest near Rosslare ferry port. Travel a few miles and you get it for maybe 5c cheaper.

Similar or slightly higher compared to Jan-Feb this year Malcolm when we were over.
Irish prices have risen a lot over the same period.

Currently between €1.43 (supermarkets) and €1.60 (motorway services)
Last April Spain was generally about €1.23, about 10 cents cheaper than France at the time.

CLICK HERE for the official French website on which by law all retailers of fule must list their current prices.
