Jim, must be a requirement for a Ford based vehicle. Have you tried other insurance brokers, do they all have the same requirement.

I enquiries about insurance with Adrian Flux but they were not prepared to quote unless I had a tracker fitted, so I think I will stay with Dolmen as the cost of the tracker would take forever to recoup through the insurance costs

With blockers being so inexpensive, I'm surprised insurance companies still insist on trackers. I prefer the motte and bailey approach, try to keep thd b'stards out. I only have a big bright yellow steering lock at the minute , but when I get home, my first call will be to LTS for a Vanbitz Striker or Growler system, I've read some good reviews about them. Hopefully plenty of noise and flashing lights will make the bad guys move on.

I have a tracker, dealer installed it was in their overall package, at no extra cost to myself and a 3 year subscription my insurance company insisted on a tracker OR a suitable alarm I have a vanbitz growler which I rate very highly.
My insurance company also gave a discount for a reversing camera or sensors. I with comfort insurance uk based.

You could try LV, I have insured mine with them, no requirement for a tracker and very reasonable as well.

Thanks to all for answers. The tracker being suggested is the 'tracker locate', which they claim can still work on vhf when the gps signal is blocked.
Going a little crazy trying to figure out what is best as we cannot start to register without insurance?..
Tried insurers are happy without tracker, premier is higher by the cost of one.
Also found that thatcham is financed by insurers, so by recovering stolen mhs , they reduce claims.

I bought one (a tracker) and in my opinion don’t waste your money on it.

Lots of insurance companies will now insist on a tracker if the value of the motorhome is over a certain amount .

Did you ask Axa for their recommendations for a fitter of a tracker?
The reason why I ask is, God forbid, should a wagon be stolen in the future, there is a risk of non payment by insurance, if the insurance company deems the tracker fitted as being inadequate.

In my past experience if the insurance company is insisting on a tracker then they will want the tracker cert before issuing cover.

It will also have to meet a certain standard, I know that Dolmen askif one is fitted but unless you can provide all the certs and standards then say no, it doesn’t matter as you don’t get a discount

Likewise, I fitted this little unit, has SIM card and geofences as-well as an intruder alert. Also you can shut the engine down by a SMS command. For the price it’s amazing little bit of kit, although no use for insurance discounts.

How do the engine shutdown procedure work Jon? There are some situations that it wouldn’t be safe to shutdown eg. crossing a main road etc. Can it differentiate?

No, it’s controlled remotely by phone. Send a text with “stop” to the sim number and it switches a relay and stops the engine. The relay is a NC type so in normal operation it doesn’t rely on the unit to work so it’s pretty foolproof.
Would only be used in a situation where you see the vehicle has been moved outside its geofence parameters or if you see it moving on the tracker. You control the stop function remotely by phone and it can be set so it only responds to certain commands from specific phone numbers.

Seriously neat bit of kit! Wouldn't go astray on the motorbike either!
