Ultimately all failed industrial or commercial buildings end up in the residential sectors.
An example would be our city docklands which were a couple of generations ago, hubs of commerce, then fell to rack and ruin, before been demolished and redeveloped into residential units.
But the onus is on our councils, to recognise the lost of our main/ high street as a business hub and a rates generator in lieu of the suburban retail park that the same council allowed to develop.
The same councils have put some very restrictive hertiage measures in place to protect the main/high street.
Things like protecting the old single pane timber windows, cast iron gutters, traditional slate roofs, and the list goes on. The reality is that main/high street property is too expensive to redevelop into modern day residential units.

Yeah too expensive now. In 15 years when its empty, prices will soon fall and legislation change.

The price of land will fall.
Currently it is €200 per square foot to build a new property on a green field site, not allowing for site development like, roads, sewage, etc.
Redevelopment cost of a commerial building is nearly €300 per square foot, due to the amount of manaul labour involved with demolition and etc and that is before things like propping neighbouring wall etc.

I don't know about you, how could I? what a stupid statement.

Don't you think "the high street is dieing" "lets redesign the high street" etc etc is a bit too feckin late?

It's dead, online shopping is the future, suck it up and move on?

Think in this dieing planet the amount of power used to keep just one shop open, heat, lighting etc. Think how much power ordering online doesn't use in a comparison.

Get over it and start building houses for the homeless in town centres with shops that are actually needed, that can't be done online. Start opening disused buildings for the homeless and poor to live in.

Had the same conversation with my Barber a couple of months ago and he turned around and said Pat, thank God they can’t buy a hair cut online, I fried my brain all the way home thinking if I could design something that would😄

The LED bulb, is something that folks here would have been converted to over the last few years, in order to batteries in the wagon.
However it's only in the last year that LED bulb prices have came down to affordable levels.

On the other side of the article, regarding sustainable power generation, it often occur to me about the feasibility of converting some of the old river water mills into micro generators. After all, some mills grounded flour for hundreds of years. Alot of the main infrastructure, the weirs, the mill races, etc are still there, just need a good tidy up to become functioning again.
Down this way, nearly every second parish has one abandoned.

Affordable Levels, Malcolm?
FFS, Derek Walsh charged me €75 for four led's in the Motorhome when he did repairs to our heater recently, Maria was with me and said there was a couple bulbs not working to him, I will be leaving her at home the next time  what harm we saw them for sale in Spain for only 3 or 4 euro ea.

Disgusting.

Reminds me of something no where near as horrific. But there was an incident in Benidorm and I thought, if this was back home some idiot would be filming it.

Nothing can take place now without it being captured by some sort of device.

"No photos after 6pm" was the unwritten rule at a Craic meet, I don't think anyone realised how serious I actually meant that.

That video was shown to me in work yesterday by a colleague. After 10 seconds, I walk away before I would have done something stupid. Afterwards my colleague showed us that his mother, a woman nearly 80, had forwarded the video to him.
Social media is affecting everyone not just teenagers, who are figuring out the difference between their elbow and their backside.

Makes you want to know who is in whose pocket.
Example.
How many failed insurance company's had at the end of their ads .
Regulated for conduct and Business rules.
Who is still paying the cost, we are, not the Poli- Tick's.

Browsing the campers section in Done Deal can be a frustrating experience. If you were looking to sell your van would you not put your best foot forward and get the pics right?

Firstly, your cover pic really ought to be an exterior shot. That would cut out an awful lot of unnecessary hits. Most browsers probably know what vehicle type and condition they are interested in seeing and wouldn’t have bothered clicking the link had they first saw the exterior. I even clicked on one advert today that had no exterior shots! 🤔

Secondly, the image containers on Done Deal, and most platforms, are landscape. When you upload portrait shots, you are losing about 50% screen space and resolution. Please sellers, shoot in landscape mode, if that’s what the platform is optimized for.

Wow, given the price and life expectancy of a new Motorhome, were will come a time in the next couple of years that you will loose out big time. Ie it will be scrapped in 2045.
