Talking about Irish ferries, Just wondering what Peoples views are on their Flexi fare @ €15 each way? do ye think it is worth it if booking a good few months in advance?

My views on these flexi fares are that they are only good for the minority who have to use them, then they are really good for the companies who issue them.

I think €15 each way is worth it as a few months ahead is a long way off

We avoid the extra cost of flex fares. At the end of the day, what's going to hold you back from holidays? Sickness or the death of someone close, both of which are claimable on a reasonable priced travel insurance. We has a family travel insurance policy for something like €70/€80 per year. With 4 of us travelling together the flex fare for each of us is dearer than the year long travel insurance.

I wish my Life was as simple as yours Malcolm :D The flexi fare is per crossing not per person.

Ffs I don't know what I will be doing next week not to mind in a number of months time, but after having a look at the terms and conditions I also question the value of it, then again €30 isn't a lot in the grand scheme of things if it gave one peace of mind.

We Always book flexi fares. We’ve hade to amend our bookings twice this trip due to medical issues and the flexi fare allowed us to do it. Also, we go away and really have no set timeframe for return so we book a date we “think” we’re coming back and that usually gets amended too, so for some the flexibility option works. As others have stated, if your pretty certain of your holiday travel dates due to work constraints etc then it becomes less important.

I never book flexi going out but always coming back and have made good use of it over the years, it can save a mad dash for the boat and make for a relaxing journey.

Very clever John, now why didn’t I think of that and it would have saved me a lot of hassle a few times.

We have just booked Irish Ferries going out 18 May coming back 18 June, 3 Star 2 berth ( I like having TV) , booked kennel for dog €45 each way) ...how often can you visit dog......is there someone there to keep eye on them?. Flexi both ways.
It was €514.80 but on checking out you are asked if we wanted breakdown insurance at €76.61 for number of days we are away..
Total €541.41....no mention of insurance earlier and just when you are about to pay.

We have Dolmen but don’t they only take you to nearest mechanic they don’t return it home.
We also have Laya travel insurance....are we going a bit overboard?

Price included 10% off, maybe because we always travel with them, someone said the 10% was only till the 10th Jan.
We paid €100 now but also the €76.61 for insurance.

What are you getting for your €76 that you dont already have with Dolmen and Laya , I doubt that insurance will bring you home , IMO you just double insured ,but I could be wrong

With regards to the flexi fare. My understanding is that it costs €25 to change your dates without it. Flexi fate is €15, so you will only save €10 if you use the option. Personally I don’t pay for flexi, am I missing something here

I have never heard of IF offering cover. What does it cover you for? Does it include repatriation?
We pay similar for annual European breakdown cover which includes repatriation.

I think the discount period has been extended

Irish Ferries Breakdown Insurance: https://www.allianz-worldwide-…rries.aspx

There is a 14 day cooling off period...a chance to study it.
Journey had to start in Republic of Ireland...I wonder does it also mean resident? Irish Ferries doesn’t go from Northern Ireland.
Motorhome must be under 8m and under 10 years old...we are 09 reg.
There is a line “if no qualified driver for the insured vehicle.....unlimited transporting home, €450 towards accommodation.”

Someone in the past said to us,...our MH has open drive insurance....but I have never driven the motorhome ever, if main driver unable to drive, the Insurance would expect me to drive it. Policy would have been less if we only had named drivers.

We have a Laya medical insurance, but we also have Laya Travel Insurance and Dolmen.
Of course when we broke the mirror and it cost €500...we didn’t claim incase they put up our premium this year!!

Regarding flexi ....every year we always come home earlier by a few days.
I try and book the cheapest fare, we can pay more if fare is higher but you don’t get a refund if it is lower.
The breakdown insurance is linked to dates travelling, hopefully if delayed coming home due to breakdown you are covered.
