I was just drooling over a brochure of the 2017 5.45m van. Has anyone been inside one? We are both "compact" so it looks like there would be enough room except in the "wet" bathroom.

JonMac I had a look at them at the NEC in October. They are a nice well finished van as one would expect from Hymer. Although I would have to say I would find it difficult to choose between the pilote offering and the Hymer.

Last month we stayed overnight outside Donaghey's on a two night trip. We had the opportunity to look inside some of their stock. Mostly the A (B) class models as we currently have a 2015 model B598PL, so it is always interesting to see how the models evolve.

It was nice to see that the layout and fittings hadn't changed much, if at all. A sign that they have a winning formula in my view.

The one thing that has impressed me is that they are working hard to reduce the unladen weights. Some of the models are around 2800 or 2900kg. My own van was 3150kg before adding an awning, solar panel and spare wheel, so our load margin is not great. I may have to consider upgrading to 3850kg which is fortunately only a paper exercise. The unladen weight includes just 20litres of water which I think is scandalous, it almost makes the vehicle unfit for purpose (although this is not a Hymer only scenario); if you cannot easily carry sufficient water to make you self sufficient, you may as well tow a caravan with an aqua roll.

We have had ours for a year now and are very happy with it, and pleased with the sales and after service at Donaghey's. This is the van that we hope will cover the next 10 or 15 years of active motorhoming.

The general build quality in Hymers went downhill around the early noughties IMO, especially the shower size and table size. The new ones look great and very snazzy inside all the same.

Whilst I like the name Hymer and the snobbery that goes with owning one, I much prefer an Adria hence why I bought one.

I think the Hymers look very snazzy. Looked at one about a year back but the price to change was a bit more than wanted to part with.
I think most of the newer motorhomes have improved in terms of layout design and looks.
Looking forward to going to the trade show in January.
But only for a look around and for a drool :D
