My van has 3 gas burners, a small gas oven but no grill. Just wondering what is the best alternative method or gadget for toasting bread. The round metal plate with the wire holders for 4 rounds seems to get very mixed reviews.

We tried all sorts (including the round plate with the four sides.......useless!!!)
We toast our bread in the non stick frying pan on the gas burner
Nice and crispy on the outside and soft in the middle.
The kids love toast and tea before bed and I said it was worth a try.
It worked out fine.
It helps to have a square of damp kitchen paper to wipe out any crumbs in the pan after each slice
They start to burn and set off the smoke alarm
Just to add that besides the plate and four sides being useless, that what do you do with it when finished and waiting for it to cool down.also that it was very unstable with no cool touch handle

Tried the plate with the four wire sides, total waste of time. Got a folding toaster from Halfords which does one slice at a time. works a treat. By the time you have one slice of toast buttered the next slice is ready, I would recommend it.

when i had the Hymer and before that a trigano tribute with no grill or oven i tried them all and all are pretty useless. you will find the primus one toasts pretty quick but leaves a mess with the crumbs.I have a Skillet and butter both sides of the bread first then fry them ,works great for toasties . Got a grill and oven now

Oh dear, world of tackle say they don't post to Northern Ireland. Luckily there is a similar one on fleabay for £9.99. Another Xmas pressie sorted. Don't tell Wendy.
Our .van has the usual Smev oven/grill but the grill is pretty useless. We have been using one of the Primus thingies (thought not a Primus brand) for a good few years. We find it so convenient and fast that we have a spare put away for when it finally burns out.
BTW, they fold flat for storing away when not in use.
We have been told that the pyramid type are pretty useless so never tried that kind and can't comment on them
A quick wipe of the hob with a damp cloth sorts any crumbs.

Does the Primus go on top of the hob or under the grill?
One thing the Dragon always asks when we are on site is have we EHU, .....so we can have toast in the morning (But she docent eat toast normally, even if we are plugged in)
Might invest in one and surprise her next time she asks

Ordered this one at 5.99 last night and delivery is expected tomorrow. Wont get to try it until the weekend but will report back when I do.
It arrived in the post today on schedule and thought I would try it at home on the gas hob. It made great toast with little difficulty and tasted great. I had thought it might have tasted like the toast that we made on a fork in the caravan as children which had a unique chemical taste.
The only negative is that the toasting is from the underside so you have to lift the bread from time to time and check its progress. It will hold 2 pieces of square sliced pan at a push at a time, but today I toasted 1 slice of tiger bread at a time and was still much quicker than a conventional electric slot toaster. Folds flat at around 6" x 4" and a bargain at 5.99 delivered.

I can't believe there are 5 pages on here about making toast
Do you think I got to be this weight just eating lettuce, I don't even have salad on my donor kebab.
Arthur you don't have to have 5 pages. If you go to your control panel at the top and go to settings and go to posts per page, you can increase this to up to 40. This will reduce the amount of pages and the need to click next page so often.

Good call Paul, I forgot about that as I have mine set to 40. In this age of Facebook - people are not used to clicking for more pages, so for new members I have set the 'topics per page' and 'posts per page' to 40 by default. Existing members will need to change their's manually as per your instructions.

Our one arrived in today's post and so far the dragon has given it the nod of approval, (her being very finneky about her toast)
I was surprised at how quick it did the job

I love my toast in the morning so invested in one of those gadgets that fit 4 slices around the edge, same as other posts not fit for purpose. But I was miles from home in the land of the baguette or round loafs with no grill in my german imported camper. Using side cutters and pliers I made a lower profile version, allowing one large slice or a few sliced baguttes.toast like we used to do round the fire. Not going to win any awards but does the job.If i am allowed to post a pic i would, trying to get my head around that bit
The toastie maker one I got (see previous post) is excellent. as well as toasties it does pancakes, muffins, sliced bread very quickly with no mess. You can even fry an egg in it.
