I would like to watch TV occasionally in my campervan, when I'm on sites with ehu, in Ireland. Not being technically minded, I would appreciate if you could tell me what I need - thinking tv DVD combi. after that, I am lost. Any advice would be appreciated.

In my caravan days I bought a great aerial from Downshire Caravans for around £30. Just fed it up onto the roof and wahay. Still use it when satellite is crap, like in Hungary and Croatia.

As you will be only using it on ehu, an ordinary 240volt television with freeview would be much cheaper than the 12v / 240v versions. If you are in the south or want to use it in the south you will require one with Saorview to pick up the southern freeview. Dependent on signal strength, if its a regular haunt you could try a portable aerial first and see how good the reception is.

You can pick up a Bush LED TV at Argos for between €115 and €140 depending on screen size and with/without DVD. If on occasion you don't have EHU you can power it with a small inverter LIKE THIS.
I have one for about three years now and it does what it says on the tin, importantly the range has a very good viewing angle.

As for an aerial , you can get a version which sticks on with a sucker or a permanently mounted one, budget between about €45 for THIS TYPE and about €100 THIS TYPE depending on version and specification

Many thanks all for the info. Looks like I will, after all, be able to watch a bit of tv! I must look out the TV and the aerials.

Best TV for camper is Avtex good sensitive tuner, works in every format easy retune very reliable and they make one with a built-in Sat tuner. Expensive but cheap in the long term, use caution when buying a cheap 12v TV. Check out sound and especially viewing angle as many have a laptop type screen that is very dull if not directly in front of it. And make sure of warranty as some work fine for years but most don't.

I have to agree with WILLIE. I've got 2 Avtex TVs in our Motorhome and they are excellent.

If you need an amp Fringe make a 12v one called ( Fringe Easy Tune 2 way) it has a built in meter and adjustable gain to help you set up your aerial, on Amazon for £22.99.
