Seen a few about when trying for WiFi, only realised with my BT Business broadband I can connect to these with 50 free minutes a month. But if you install a FON in your house, you can access all FON's around the world for free. http://corp.fon.com/en

Can even make some money with one if you live in a busy area.

Currently switching from BT Broadband to another provider so might install one of these to be used at our wild camping spot.

Keep seeing these on my phone and have read that if you are a FON customer you can logon to another persons signal.

Great idea but I am not with BT and usually need a wifi signal when I am out of NI/UK. I have never seen a FON signal in ROI or France yet although plenty are shown on their map.

I am more interested in wifi or good mobile internet in ROI.

I posted in the Wi-fi and GPS regarding using BTfon abroad, but it seems a lot of folk don't know it's available at home. Basicly if you use BT broadband of BT infinity you can agree to sharing your connection withthe Fon community (we do this & have never noticed any lag) There are over 4 millon hotspots in the UK. Also now BT Openzone and BT FON are now known as BT Wi-fi, the world's largest wi-fi network. (When you buy any BT Broadband package you receive unlimited free access to BT Wi-fi.) got this last bit from BTs website
