Bought a 300watt inverter mainly for Julie's hair straighteners.

Hair Straighteners say - 230v 50/60Hz 45Watt

They come on with the inverter but don't heat up, any idea's?

Second inverter I have purchased, first one didn't work at all although it was a Halfords one I got it VERY cheap of ebay.

300 could be a hit or miss to get them started. (GHD's) lesser models work better.

Initially, for the first minute of use from cold, the straighteners can use the full 300W, then as they warm this is reduced to 120W, for the remainder of their use. During use they draw between 55W and 106W, with an average of approximately 79W.

you can get gas hair straighteners.... not as good as the GHD's but do the job when you're camping.... not that you would need them :D :D :D :D

Would a 500w inverter operate a hairdryer or straightner?

What should I be checking to make sure they will work?

Most hairdryers are over 750watt.
