The craic map stopover places are great but wouldn't a system like France Passion be super to have in this country.

Have you tried the Motorhome Parking Ireland APP?

I spoke to the Garda in salthill and asked if i parked my MH there and went for a walk along the prom, would i get a parking ticket, her reply was she had no intention of giving a parking ticket to me.
Im sure if she was told to do it she would have to.

If you have a look at the sign over the car park opposite The Elglinton Hotel it clearly directs buses and Camper Vans to park along the road outside

Yes the Parking Map is what I mean but it would be great get more small business with a car park and something to sell involved like they do in France Passion.

I think Ally was referring to the APP and not the MAP !

Maybe you have missed all the chat on here about the APP.

You can download it by clicking on the link below.

Here is how it works in case you haven't seen it.

Is it possible for someone with the right background and frame of mind to come up with a standard letter we all can use so as a group we can make representation to councils and local authorities

I'll see what we can put together, maybe drag Colin (Baguette) into it's creation if he doesn't mind :)

Aires are already being campaigned for, from different angles.

Here is a letter that you can send to your local council to enquire on why you are restricted from using area's with height barriers.

Many thanks to Colin (Baguette) for providing it.

Copy and paste or download the Word file.

Quote
Dear xxxxxxxx
I am writing to you in connection with the overhead barrier at xxxxxxxxx.
Being the owner and user of vehicle Registration No. xxxxxx which is fully compliant with all the legal requirements necessary to be lawfully used in public places I request an explanation as to why I am denied access to xxxxxxxxx when driving the above vehicle.
It is my understanding that unless there are specific reasons identified and justified on which to do so there are no legal bases on which a barrier can be put in place to deny vehicular traffic access to a place which forms part of the public road. Car parks, and in particular public car parks, those provided and maintained from the public purse are considered to be part of the public road under the Road Traffic Act and The Highway Code.
I do understand that it may be necessary to restrict vehicle access at certain times and to certain areas of the public road on the basis of length and or width for reasons of safe circulation or on the basis of Gross Vehicle Weight to protect the integrity of the pavement. However, I can see no logical reason to restrict vehicle access on the basis of height unless there are low structures ahead which could be damaged by high vehicles circulating within that area.
Having regard to the foregoing please furnish me with a copy of the Regulation or Bye-law adopted by Council which underpins the placement of the barrier referred to above together with an account of the reasoning for the edict. Failing that please remove the obstruction put in place in order that I can enjoy fair access to that section of the public road.

Good Letter

Is there anyway we could put funding together to legally challenge the existence of these Barriers?

My daughter in law is a human rights Lawers with the equality commission.

I discussed this issue with her & her response was that it was not a case for human rights or the equality commission.
Also, they would not have the funding to bring such a case.

It would have be privately funded if such a case were to be brought & I am sure it would not be cheap.

Map APP - APP Map, it all gets confusing :)

To answer your previous question and why I referred to the APP. Not being someone that tours France in a Motorhome I have never used France Passion, but I think I have the gist of how it works and from what I can see Brit Stops is a copy of that concept.

We made a decision to develop an APP as, to be honest, I think paper books are on their way out, plenty still prefer them but that number is dwindling every year. Also impossible to load a SatNav APP from a Book.

The APP promotes business's in Ireland the way France Passion does in France, only I think in a way which is better. Aires can be viewed on the Free version of the APP, also Campsites are Free to view. This of course brings business to towns and Campsites.

Business's can add themselves for Free, so if they welcome Motorhomes they can submit themselves or be submitted Free of charge.

We have been recognised by the NITB and are in negotiations with Failte Ireland to get recognised by themselves.

So in short, I think we have the likes of France Passion and the Brit Stops concept covered, and even more so in terms of technology.

Great Colin
The song is always better when everyone is singing from the same sheet.

Now how do we go about sending something like this signed by everyone on this form to minister Ross and his opposite number in the North ? in order to provide at least one car park in every town and Scenic area around the country, after that we can bring up the subject of Airs

Mart.

I think the highlighted bit is the issue, they would rather fight over a cake!

As I have said in the past if a disabled person in a large 4x4 with a wheelchair rack on top could not get under a barrier ,should there human rights be affected

Yes as they are being discriminated against in that they are being denied the freedom of use of their property and denied access that abled body can enjoy.
