Hello,

Does anyone have any info on the Sperrin Mountains site? Stayed a few times last year but it seems to have closed and never reopened?

Cheers
Col

Hi Col, I took a drive out to it just now and it appears to have shut down. It's so overgrown that you can barely see the sign at the gate which is chained and padlocked. Looks like it hasn't been used this season.

There is always Hillfoot, near Dungiven on the road out to Garvagh. Run by an outstanding guy called Mervyn.

Or Shepherds Rest, if you are looking forest trails, although a mccni meet there next weekend so it could be busy.

The odd motorhome has stayed at Elsie and Sam Bell's rare breed's farm on the top of the Sperrins .
They had planned to open a 5 van site but thought they were getting to old for all the hassle.
From Cookstown turn right up the ballybriest road before lough Fea, right to top of the mountain.
If you PM me I should have their Tel No.

On the craic map.

I have just spoken to a neighbour who is friendly with the owner of Sperrin Mountains site and he believes that it was sold and was to reopen again this season but the place was vandalised and the lead and copper stolen from the buildings in the campsite, the cottages and the History park. He says that it probably wont reopen until next season now.
