To wave or not ?

When we bought our first motorhome we were driving it home for the first time when the driver of another motorhome traveling in the opposite direction waved.

We waved back, but decided that they must recognise the vehicle and not the occupants.

Our first trip out, passed two more motorhomes and got two more waves.
Now we thought there was more to this.

After chatting to others on campsites we were brought up to speed on "the wave"..

After this we now wave to every motorhome we see (does confuse them when I am in the car mind you)and most wave back.

We have noticed that sometimes only the driver waves in a raised hand way & sometimes both front seat occupant wave. Sometimes we get a two handed wave from the passenger. There are also the times that no-one returns your wave but I put this down to them being new like we were.

Do you wave or not & how do you do it?

I was into the car scene for years, always Minis. They all wave at each other, except the BMW MINIS don't usually wave at the Classic ones and vice versa. So it didn't really take me by surprise, we met two Motorhomes on the way home when we picked ours up, both waved and I waved back.

On a recent trip my son who had never been in a Motorhome before found this hilarious and couldn't wait until the next one passed so he could get the wave action going :)

Both 'er indoors and myself wave usually with one hand, I'll be thinking about it now that you have posted this the next time I wave.

I notice Caravanners don't wave to MH'ers and vice versa.

we always try to wave when we can, Some times we meet vans on a roundabout when I'm looking for which exit I have to take. In this situation My better half should take over this job but She is Usually Having a Snooze.
"Now i'm running for cover in case she reads this" :hiding: :hiding:

Keep the wave going 👋 👋

Same with VW's...

There's a weird kind of heirarchy...

I knew a Bay window owner who refused to wave at modern watercooled Bay's because they weren't the "real" thing.

T25's would only wave sometimes and T4's never waved back.

We'd just wave at anything :wohow:

Only ever had a couple of motorhomes wave at us in the bay so make sure you wave at those VW's from now on...

And we'll continue to wave at anything remotley camper related :wohow:

Oh except caravans

I always wave to other passing motorhomes, seems only polite. Its usually a one hand jesture but if I am wearing my cowboy hat at the time it becomes more of a pony express type greeting.
My granddaughters from the rear scream campervan loudly.

Yeah I love waving at other motorhomes!!! But its the size of the wave I have to get used to...in our village nearly everyone waves when you are driving the car but its more of a quick tip of the finger or a 'howya' nod so the big full on howdy is reserved for when we are out in the motorhome :)

I really love that custom. It's mad how you notice the smallest wave of the finger as a gesture. Shame it's died out where we live.
