Heard reports Dundonald Campsite is closed to the public as it is full of travellers. Anyone know anything further?

Used to be Tollymore, then I heard it was Drum Manor and now Dundonald. I suppose they are working their way through the sites.

We really cannot blame councils for putting Aires on the long finger when this sort of behaviour is to be expected from this section of our population. They are a scurge on the rest of us and the mess and destruction in their wake is horrible.

Surely there must be "travellers" in other countries, eg France I wonder how they deal with the problem. Hady

Travellers now gone but unfortunately site closed until March

Called round at the caravwn site this afternoon & site's empty & gates locked. Spoke to icebowl & they had travellers who wouldnt leave but they've now gone & site shut until March for maintenance. This was planned anyway but had to be brought forward. #######s

The law is an ass. Seems to me, the more of a minority one is in, the more they make their voice, or presence felt. Even if the water and leccy was cut off, they would still stay because they like to think they're untouchable. What would they do in the US of A?

In the USA they would sort it with a word beginning with "A", end in "K" and there would be 47 of em !

AFAIK, in France - many sites prohibit the parking of double-alxe MHs, beloved of Travellers. If they arrive, they are in violation of the rules and can be moved on....

I have been to france and seen tag axles on sites, and the people in them were not our distant cousins,

The difference between France and Ireland is the law gets enforced in France and theres no beating about the bush

Folks, I read all the comments on this one and fund it hard to refrain from telling folk how I feel as I have been accused by others that I am a bigot and not caring. I'm sure you've got my drift. The law is an ass here.

I don't think the law is an ass, I think he authorities are an ass for not implementing the law. I have to ask where are they expected to go, what facilities are available for them.

NIMY. John I have to disagree. It is, in this case all about choice, the "distant cousins", or pikeys choose to live that way. They could just as easyily be "settled" travellers. I know of a case, and this is well off topic, where a guy got 3 years for murdering his wife. Out in 18 months! What is jurisprudent about that?

It wasn't a murder charge if he got 3 years as that has a minimum tariff. He got out on licence after completing 50% of his term but if he did anything to break the term of the licence he would be back in again, that's the system, not the law and it's the twats on the hill who decide that.

Travellers do choose to live that way in the same way as we choose where to live, it's freedom of choice which we all live under not just some parts of society.

Even on this site we have referred to a tiny minority of motorhomers who "give us all a bad name" by dropping litter, emptying toilets in the wrong place, park in considerately etc, it's exactly the same for the travelling community, there are those that have given them a bad name and we all think of them as being the same.
