fridge exhaust questions

hello!
I was just looking at my fridge exhaust. The top of the flu has a t piece and one end is connected to an aluminium cowling which takes gases outside. However the other end of the T is open. Presumably some of the flu gases will come out of the open end then? And if so what's to stop them from entering the van? I think this is normal but it seems odd?? Sould the open end of the T be blanked off?

exhaust T piece

I was fixing a cooling problem I had with my fridge last week and noticed the exact same thing. My T piece is angled slightly upwards towards the exhaust port, with the inboard end open. I thought it might have been for the Truma heater but the exhaust for that is on the roof.
It may be for removing moisture laden air from the back of the fridge or to create a draught to cool that area through the venturi effect when operating without a 12v fan.
