Microsoft Scam

I meant to post this a while ago, another site jogged my memory.

If you receive a phone call, usually declaring themselves as attached to Microsoft in some shape or form and informing you that you have virus's etc on your computer, it is a scam.

They will say that they can take over your computer remotely and fix the problems obviously for a fee.

Anyone that is legit and lawful will never ring you ever- end of story.

They sound very convincing, happened to my brother, even when he realised it was a scam he still rung me to make sure it was, that's how convincing they are.

On the point of remote access....there's an excellent free to use for non commercial purposes program called TeamViewer (www.teamviewer.com) which is so easy to set up and use to help someone remotely...I use it all the time to help my family members fix problems all the time....and haven't used the RUN command either!

I also used it while in Greece several years back to remotely access my computer here at home..i.e. used the computer in Greece as a dumb terminal.

Cheers Viktor, I used to use PC Anywhere years ago but it was never great, more recently always done it with Messanger. I would always worry about security with anything like that but I see they use key sharing.

thanks
