Brian asked me yesterday at Ally's how many MPG did the Regius do...and I couldn't answer because I'd never bothered to work it out....then I thought it might be an idea to put up here what each of our vehicles does (if you know with reasonable accuracy)...so that any prospective new Motorhome owners know what to expect with running costs...or you could check to see if yours is roughly on track or are you getting a lot less possibly indicating a problem...

Bearing in mind that if you are running on dual Petrol/LPG the offical opinion is you get 20% less miles per gallon when running on LPG....though no loss of performance..

so I worked it out today...

Toyota Regius 4 wheel drive per gallon ....LPG :20 (19.88) miles - Petrol : 25 (24.85) miles

Did a run tonight of 134.9 k round trip and used 19.14 litres of LPG at a cost of £14.14p

Update - Wait a mo...i'm going to have to eat humble pie here...forgot this is an import and the darned odometer is still in kilometers, so I'll have to change those miles in retrospect, and that changes things!

Had a quick look round the internet for actual figures experienced and this would seem to be within the average which is given as between 22 - 28 mpg for either the petrol 2.7 or the diesel engines with slightly less expected for permanent 4 wheel drive variations.

Hi Viktor,

the motorhome (6.8m coachbuilt) is on a 2006 transit and has fairly consistently given 29mpg, it being a 2.4lt diesel. I rarely horse it on and tend to tootal along at about 50-55 on good roads. No hurry, it is supposed to be relaxing and we like to look over the hedges.

The family car is a 2004 Nissan X Trail (2.2Lt diesel) seems to give about 42 mpg. I try to keep the revs under the 2000 (50-55mph again). Curiously the mpg did not seem to be much lower when towing our caravan.

My 2002 Mazda MX5 (1.8 petrol) does about 30mpg. Bit low by modern standards, but so what? More than made up for by the fun!!

Daughters 2000 Ford Ka (1.4? petrol) about 40mpg.

All sounds fine until you consider that when daughter was at jordanstown, and son travelling daily to Belfast for apprenticeship, ALL the fuel was going on my credit card, a mere £550 per month. This on an Asda card which at the time gave 2p per litre discount!!!

Living on the edge of penuary,

Davy

We drive a Knaus Sun TI on Renault master 2.2 running gear.
We got a steady 32 MPG if we stay around the 60 MPH.
If we try to cover more ground and drive at 70 MPH the MPG drops to 26-27

Another thing we have noticed is that we do seem to get a much better range on a tankfull if we don't use supermarket diesel.

Hi Mark,

The supermarket versus branded fuel debate. There is a very interesting topic on the Autosleeper owners forum, lots of interesting little facts and theories. Worth a visit.

Thanks Davy.
I will have a read for sure.

I am sure many say it is nonsense but I do notice a difference in the overall range.

The Adria, with a 2.3L gave me 28mpg last year with mixed driving and a decent load on.

I find that typically I get 26/27 MPG on a journey of any significant length - 10.5 L/100 KM.

our Burstner a class Fiat 2.3 is alwyas around the 28 mpg no matter how i drive it, if on motorway, i usually tramp on at around 70 or 80 if in France.

my car 08 4.0 V8 M3 runs around 22mpg, until i put the boot down and its 12-15 mpg, only do around 4k a year so not a big issue.

wifes Audi Q5 is 35-40 mpg

Talbot does 30mpg on 2.5 non turbo peugeot engine, never goes much above 55mph.
I traded in the Saab at start of month for a Citroen C5 tourer. So far I get about 45mpg round town and 66 on longer trip. I am well pleased the best I got from the Saab was 41 :D

We have an Adria Izola, 3 litre 140 bhp engine. We keep a regular check on our mpg and get 29-31 mpg on our normal driving ie around 2000 revs or less. Anticipation, no hurry and an easy right foot are key to economic driving.

Van - No idea. I don't drive it enough to worry too much about MPG. I am hoping it's a bit more economical then the Tranny was though.

Car - BMW 535D. I get about 28MPG mixed and 35MPG on a run. Not great economy but the fun driving makes up for it

We"re on a Ford chassis with a 6.8 v10 on LPG. I"ve clocked it a few times and seem to get about 12mpg which at the price of LPG,76p per litre, is acceptable, particularly as she weighs about 8.5 ton. Never drive on petrol so don"t know the difference in efficiency and, to be honest, I would"nt want to know, not at £1.30+ per litre anyway... :o

508 Hymer .......2.3,,,,,,,,130bhp.........25 to 28mpg @ 55 to 60 mph any harder and you can hear it sucking the diesel through the injectors. This is on branded diesel from main suppliers, esso, texaco, stat oil etc.

Was buying fuel at spurious outlets and definitely was getting 3to4 miles per gallon less. When I complained to my van supplier the first thing he asked was " where are you buying your diesel. Since switching to main suppliers it has definitely improved.

Agreed Brendan, branded fuel so much better.

Supermarket fuel should be left in the supermarket.

I done a run to Kilkenny at the new year. Filled up to brim at applegreen on M4 on the way down and again at same filling station on the way back. 212.8 miles and it took 45 litres to fill it. Works out at 21 mpg :o
2004 Adria coral with ducato 2.8jtd
2 things which were effecting consumtion was, I was doing about 65 mph which is about 2600 revs and it was very windy both up and back. Next time I'll go easier and see does it have much effect on consumption.

I drive a diesel 08 Scoda Octavia car, 1.9TD and according to the onboard computer it has done an average of 61 mpg since I got it. Make of that what you will, but it is certainly very easy on juice.

I have to say I only have the van for 2 months now and have been out in it 3 times. I'd still go even if it was only doing 10mpg. Great craic!!

Same as mine, I will let you know what I get on my trip to Kilkenny, I try to not go above 2000 revs in top gear.

my 98 ducato 2.5td does 28mpg provided you travel at 100 or less... pushing to 120kmh drops this to 20ish.

Guess it has to do with the aerodynamics of a brick!

There was an article in the MMM magazine last year they did a year long test on BP Ultimate Diesel, the end result was much better value for money i.e. more MPG and taking the extra cost into consideration Vs MPG was cheaper in the long run.

Checked our Chausson / Ducato with Fiat 2.3 jtd engine when we went to the Belturbet meet some time ago and got just over 31mpg, but if I drive it hard on the motorway it is much heavier.

I have just recently acquired a Ducato with Fiat 2.3 and I got 29 mpg by keeping the speed just below 60 mph.

Yes it is low profile and the lounge converts to a double bed. The model is E410, L: 5.7mtrs W: 2.3mtrs. This reading was based on just one run, will be interesting to see how it performs over time.

26-28 MPG after a remap on a 2.8JTD, was previously 22-23.

Not low profile and over 7 metres.

Around the same, I usually sit at 2000 revs or slightly below, 2000 is around 55mph, but it's 55mph on the SatNav not on the speedo.

You using the SatNav or the speedo for the reading?

I think 2000 revs is 60mph on the speedo.
