Anyone have advice about which Chinese Diesel Heaters to buy/avoid. I'm thinking about a 5kw one.

I would go as far as saying that they are not noisy more a gentle hum. Some folks complain about the ticking noise from the pump at night whilst in bed but sorry I couldn’t possibly sleep with a heater on. So as I see it, no not noisy and a great addition for the money

a wee silicon case for the pump qwells the pump noise...on tickover they ae no more noisey than a truma IMHO. Just run engine whilst the heater is starting for first couple of minutes to help with the start up current surge...then at tickover they are not too bad on attery. Ive one in shed and one in van...both 2 years no issues. Ive had an £800 eberspacher in my lasy boat, and these chinese ones are every bit as goodand with better controller.

As for the ticking I replaced the pump that came with the heater with a German pump only cost £15 of ebay and hung it on cable ties also replaced the silencer with a spare lawnmower one really can’t hear it anymore

Arrived today, I've been utubing so going to change a few things. Getting a standpipe to fit on the tank as people are reporting leaks from the bottom of the tank, also a turret go get it through the floor. Came with a green fuel pipe and reports that the white harder version is better. Going to make a acoustic box to deaden the tick if it annoys me but might hang it first to see. I have from now to Feb to get it fitted any other bits of advice greatly accepted

Tried putting it in a box lined with foam doesn’t work I found the best wY was to hang it of two cable ties

Yes it says its 8kw but I take that with a pinch of salt. Seems the same size as 5kw ones

I would advise to change to a cotton braided rubber fuel line, I had the plastic one & the ticking of the pump was amplified even though I used a bit of foam around the p-clips.

Still running a few ideas through my head. Has anyone fitted a through hull boat exhaust, or put the exhaust through the floor without a turret. I'm not keen in cutting a big hole in the floor. I'm fitting it in the double floor and intend to run an outlet into the cab as well as that is where the draughts come from in cold weather. I just wonder with the above would there be noise from the exhaust.

Tommy.
I tig weld a 75x1 mm pipe on the existing plate and use a 76mm hole saw through floor. You need to use a different clip (7mm hex head one) to fasten the exhaust and the d clamp on the extension.
I’ve had no issues other than planning the install so you do not hit/drill a crossmember etc.
Make sure your exhaust has a continuous fall so condensation does not form and lie on the pipe interior.
The pump angle is very important to prevent airlocks.
The standpipe can be fitted to your van via the access hatch in front of the passenger seat.
Do not use that green fuel pipe, use the 2mm i/d hard pipe as the green pipe will crack & draw air within months.

There is a difference in the heaters, many run an inferior motherboard and the newer not so friendly software and some have poorly cast heat exchangers. There is also some that have issues with the temperature sensor and results on spontaneous running with cold air blowing. To date I’ve fitted 2 motherboards in the newer ones and saw a couple with cracked exchangers.

I’ve found the best heater is either triclicks or the 5kw vevor both of which seem to stay with the older more reliable motherboard and software. They are a bit more expensive than the majority of them.

I rapped my exhaust with heat resistant tape it’s what motorbike guys use to lap there exhausts

Robert, did you use a turret or put the exhaust through the floor. I was thinking of making a frame to hold the heater off the floor so I could get access to the exhaust, inlet and fuel. Only thing going through the floor will be the exhaust. I would just worry that I dont get a good connection on the exhaust port but intend to use gun gum but we have a carbon monoxide detector

TommyS.. there is an alternative of making a box to go under the van with the heater in it then you only have to cut a hole for the heating pipe

You can buy a plate which has a collar to allow you to cut the correct size of hole in the floor I also used fire resistant silicone to seal around the plate one hole does the air intake as well as the exhaust I made sure my exhaust pipe was facing the rear of the van I also made a bracket to hold the exhaust pipe in place and about 3 inches from the floor as I said before it’s also rapped in heat resistant tape

Tommy, the air intake (for combustion) is on the outside to eliminate the possibility of carbon monoxide being in the habitation area in the event of a flame out or cracks in the exchanger.
If you wish I can add a 75mm pipe to the bottom of the existing plate for you, this is much smaller than the 120mm plates available so the hole in the floor need not be as big.

I fitted the heater at last. It was really easy to fit, took me hardly any time at all. It picks up diesel from the main tank and I routed an outlet into the cab and the other into the habitation area. I have to admit its a really neat job.

Ok, Ok before JJF bubbles me. I had it fitted by Campermedic when getting my step fixed. Real tidy job thanks again Jon

Don’t use the green line.
Solid 3mm line with fuel hose and clamps.

I used 3.5mm braided rubber hose. It's the same as the return fuel line for a diesel engine. Reason for using it is the plastic one vibrated against the flooring even with foam padding around the p clips.
