we are driving down to spain next mid july. Ive read the fuel discount will be extended to October. Im wondering has anyone used the discount recently and if so is there any residency proof required? Or Is it straigtforward? Thanks

I returned from Spain on the 9th and used it before that. The discount is, or should be, applied when you pay for your fuel. The pump price is what you would pay if there was no discount applied. The discount applies to all customers, residents and tourists. Enjoy your trip.
As said, the 20 cent per litre discount is deducted from the pump price on the bill.

The prices in the App are the before discount price.
In Catalonia i have found Alas self serv stations to be the cheapest and the price reduction is on the pump, Repsol is one of the dearest and they take it off at the till and some are giving an additional 5c on top of the 20c discount. Always ask for the receipt and dont be afraid to ask for the discount if it isn’t shown as some “forget” to give it.
This applied as of 17th June when my wife came home.

FYI, just found out over past week from personal experience, repsol 25% deduction auto atic at till no questions asked. We drove from East to west the whole way through the pyrenees and diesel was costing 1.40 euro per litre!!....not to mention good cava at 2 euro and 24 langoustines for 6.50 euro in mercadona supermarkets...we really ate getting shafted in ireland and just keep taking it!!
