France again this year but where to???????

Hey guys,

Heading back to France again in July for 3 weeks but looking at heading down to the Med, I am looking advice on the nicest route to take from Cherbourg and also what the aires situation is going to be like around Nice, Cannes and Monaco also has anyone done Italy as in Lake Garda all advice will be greatly appreciated.

I haven't done Italy but my Freind did and he said lake Garda was very busy during july and august and he said he was glad he had booked sites as they were all full. He doesn't do aires or wild camping only sites.

Gary, we did 3 weeks in July last year and it was great.

We sailed into cherbourg too.

We never went as far as Nice etc. It got quite hot (42 plus) so we stayed around the beach resorts of Narbonne Plage, Lecaute and Gruisan etc. Used Aires the whole time and loved it.

If you use Autoroutes the whole way down you could do it in two long days driving.

going to lake mergozzo and maggiore - baveno and verbania area coming down through switzerland
was there a couple of years ago
fantastic area got a few aires and plenty of campsites lots to see

baveno and stresa are great much easier to get to than garda

I'm heading that way around the same time myself. We've signed up for for France Passion and hoping to stay on those sites or wildcamp. For an extra €2 you can download a full list of coordinates for all the France Passion sites. In theory it looks great, fingers crossed!

I recently got a fantastic book listing many off the beaten track lakes and rivers around Southern France. If even 1 of the places looks as good in reality as the pictures I'll be happy with my investment. It has coordinates, hike difficulty, description of each area and a handy way to search areas.
