Was looking to upgrade as i come in the Manchester proposed ULEZ zone and as my van is a 2014 euro 6 it will cost me at least £10 a day to move it . Looked at 2016 upgrades but all over £40 grand and the new Autotrail Adventure i was looking at has gone up 3000 and its not arrived yet. :o I did get a halfhearted trade in price on mine against a £44.000 van and was offered around £25,000 ( same model and year on sale in Autotrader for £37000) ,so wont be changing anytime soon.

The current yoke is 3 years old so I won't be changing it in the next few years. I'll probably hold off until 2028 or so and try to get one of the last pure diesel power. Yes I'm a luddite for not embracing the future of EV but I can't see how I'll be able to do 600km a day in an EV camper.

On automotive price rises, in 2014 I bought a new car for €32k. The equivalent model/trim today is €52k. I ordered a new car for a family member in June last year for 2022 delivery and the price rose €700 in the 6 months. That shows how prices are rising.

Prices of all vehicles have gone through the roof. Global chip shortage, Covid related supply problems, the world and his dog have taken up camping etc.

Wifey sold her 2018 Up GTi at the end of November for £1300 less than she paid. Her sister just got rid of a car she bought 8 months ago and had spent the last 7 months in a garage for £1k more than she paid. I sold my Caddy in October for £2k more than it was worth pre Covid. If you want a new vehicle you either take what's on the dealers forecourt or wait.

The only market I've kept an eye on is VW Crafter/Man TGE. I've got a Crafter I bought and paid for in October 2020, it arrived in July 21. Today the wait is at least a year. I think if you want sell it's a great time, not so good to buy.

I'm going to try and change over this year if I find a suitable camper.

Suppose you can't lose on last year's purchase?

Well I just bought mine, so I'm good for at least a couple of years. With the way prices are going, I could probably sell it at a profit in a few years. Just sold my caravan for more that what I paid for it three years ago.

Going over to France next week to pick up our, new to us, 2018 Motorhome, cost saving against an Irish unit was ridiculous.

I'm thinking of going over myself later in the year.
Any chance you could give a comparison and expected VRT?

if your on holiday well worth having a look at any dealers you pass. other wise search the sites.
look at the sales sites in France, add 18 to 20% then use 13.5 % 0f your total as a guide. give yourself about €1500 for the collection.

I expect to save approximately 10k-12k compared to the cost of a comparable Irish Van, this is dependent on the revenue valuation and the 13.5% they will add on. I'll let you know the final VRT cost when the decision lands. Some good sites to look at would be the Ypocamp dealer network, just google Ypocamp and all the dealers models are available to view on one site, handy that.
It would appear that the younger the van the greater the saving as the older vans really retain value.
