Cobh the most sensible Motorhome Parking in Ireland?

It has everything a Motorhomer needs.

• Fresh Water
  
• Cassette Emptying
  
• Drive over drain for grey water.
  

No expensive French style Bournes, no EHU.

Whilst Portgleone Aire is fantastic it is a total overkill for services.

Whilst Broughsane is nice, and handy to a great village, why do you need 10 hours of Electric?

ETC.........

Why do some Motorhomers require EHU? you are parked, with the added benefit of overnighting, not camped, if you want to camp use a campsite.

What do you expect from a French Aire? The three points above? So why would expect more from an Irish Motorhome Parkng Area?

Carry a couple of black bags in the garage and fill them as you go along. your domestic bin will be empty so thats sorted.

Called by to check it out on the way back from Kinsale last week, it is a great location and definitely well laid out. Will be visiting it in the coming months. Also checked out the stopover at Midleton, not quite as good as Cobh but at least has dedicated spaces. Also FYI Lidl in Kinsale allow overnight parking for Motorhomes in their car park, we actually parked up on the quays but it's a good option.

I agree Ken, Maybe a pay to use Compactor would be the answer, we used one in Co Wexford this year, it was handy but expensive, I think €7 for standard black bin bag.

To answer a valid question, the 10 hr electric was introduced to assist disabled and ill motorhome users who required electric overnight for medical equiptment. prior to this a cable had to be run from some of the adjacent buildings to assist these motorhome users, Broughshane saw the need and responded to this.

My bro-in-law runs his sleep apnea machine off an inverter all night and can manage fine without an EHU.

Re: rubbish bins.
In the south, unlike most of the rest of Europe, we have household bin charges for domestic refuse collections. If the European policy of providing bins at motorhome parking areas was followed here the bins would inevitable by used by local residents trying to minimise their refuse collection charge and be filled in a day or less.
Facilities for the disposal of 'household rubbish' by tourists is one of the unresolved issues surrounding the provision of motorhome service bays here.
It is a littering offence to place 'household rubbish' in street-side litter bins so the only law abiding way is to keep it in a black bag until a proper disposal point is found. Not the best idea but there is no other legal option.

This Summer was the first year we didn't take the Van to France, Rubbish disposal was a problem here in Ireland, lucky we had a list of Compactors since we were joined Safe Nights Ireland

Normally I'd try to avoid parking door to door but a bit hard to do at times as some of ye insist on having right hand drive vehicles. If you don't like looking into my motorhome pull down your own damn screens.

"Don't be a dick" should be the only law necessary for both motorhome sites and wider society in general. You can solve pretty much everything by adhering to that simple phrase.

Can't see any issue, I would have done the same myself (pretty sure I have in fact). Given the variety of MoHo layouts, I'd generally try and keep my habitation door facing the same direction as neighboring vans if there seemed to be a consistency in how they were parked, after that it's much of a muchness. Given you arrived before them, the onus is on them to follow your lead.

Let's say 90%, I've no idea of the actual figure, of moho's are European built with the habitation door on the rhs. However if a UK model arrives with the habitation door on the lhs the door facing door scenario is unavailable unless the UK model, which here is generally in the minority, reverses in.
If a moho us a rear lounge layout reversing in is probably the chosen preference of the owner anyway.

A-classes can be funny in how they are parked. Reverse in you can't see out your massive window. Drive in you still can't see out of it as you turn your seats around.

Other than being an idiot, I can't see how you effected them in any way, you had actually given them the choice to park however they wanted to. Like you, I would have parked front facing the sea for the view. with the had door facing away from the other parking spaces, ( euro van) so no-one could then park with their door facing my door.
It's one of the reasons I don't like Cobh, too many me' feiners. With sunloungers, tables and chairs,and no inforcement.

I hate when you arrive at a space between two vans which have their doors facing each other.
Strandhill campsite have a policy (I usually ask when booking in to places), they say if standing on a pitch looking to the road, the hab door is to open out to the grass area on your left.
I tend to go with that everywhere since.

The day I park my Motorhome and someone comes in beside me and tries to persuade me to change direction because they feel I am not parked to their delight will not end well.
It is called live and let live, and they will realise who is parked and happy.

I only discovered the waving thing the other day! I only got my MH a few weeks ago and just discovered that everyone was waving at me on the way past. Initially I said to the wife "that's f***ing cringe, not getting involved in that" .

But then I felt like a scrouge and rude for not waving back, so I did. Now I think it's great! Everyone seems so cheerful and happy to be off out in the van and waving is kinda spreading the love a bit. I'm all in now

I'm only just finding out about this door facing etiquette too. Didn't realise it was such a big deal. I don't really give a sh*t if someone is facing me or not. If they are and they want a chat then great, if not that's fine too. I'm not bothered either way.

I park whatever way gives me the better view from my lounge window. The way my door is facing is a very secondary consideration. If my door happens to be directly opposite someone else's and they have a problem with that, they are of course free to move.

I remember at one of the Caravan Club national rallies in England a good few years ago I was directed to a 'special' line for European designed motorhomes and caravans with their door on the 'wrong' side

OK, I'm going to stand my ground on this one. What's wrong with basic courtesy?
Example? Last summer, Dick's Field. We had been there a couple of days enjoying the sunshine and waiting for the reserved space next to us to fill.
A van conversion arrives, sliding door opposite our door.
We were well back from the seafront, so there was no view, they could have parked either way.
A grown family emerge and set up all the usual, as we all do. But then on goes the stereo, out come the beers, and we're now unavoidable participants in their holiday. They kept the sliding door wide open the whole time so when we opened our door or sat outside in the heat we couldn't help but see and hear every aspect of their days and evenings.
So the advice seems to be that we should pack up all our gear and move to another space?
Not that they should at least consider their temporary neighbours and park with their door on the other side when they arrive?

when I said I park whatever way gives me the better view from my lounge window. The way my door is facing is a very secondary consideration. If my door happens to be directly opposite someone else's and they have a problem with that, they are of course free to move. I was referring to a new arrival and talking on the basis that I was there first.
Personally, I have no issue with somebody parking door to door with me provided it doesn't evolve into me being absorbed into their life contrary to my wishes.
