Split relay not charging leisure battery

Hi all.

I have an issue where my leisure battery is not being charged from the alternator while driving. This is done via a split charge relay in a 2004 Chausson Welcome 28.
EHU 230v no issues the battery, with a volt meter its charging. When the engine is running then leisure battery is only showing 12.1v
I have a CBE pc100 control panel with a DS-304sr unit.

Trouble shoot so far:
Both large fuses at the car and leisure battery ok
Removed the panel on the DS unit fuses ok but after that it’s a mess of wires.

Any help please.

Did you pin the ralay to eliminate that?

The relay is integrated into the control unit.
I’ve replaced one before. Standard 12v 70a heavy duty relay but from memory it may be soldered in (can’t remember).
You need to disconnect both heavy wires at the rear of the unit (one goes to leisure battery , the other to starter battery) and pin these wires out to establish continuously to the batteries, after that it’s either the relay, the circuit itself or a grounding issue..

Hi lads.
I’ve checked the voltage with the engine off and then on.

Looks like the relay is doing it’s job based on the B1, B2 and GND connectors giving the correct voltage.

The D+ signal should be reading 12v but it’s not reading anything which might indicate an issue with it. Any idea is there a fuse for this or is there anything I should look at.

Thanks

Check the D+ terminal at alternator with the engine running to rule out a break in the wire between the alternator and the relay

Would it be physically at the alternator or would it be the battery saver/D+ signal replay that’s in the fuse box.

Not as simple as pinning the D+ terminal.
It may be controlled via circuitry elsewhere. If its like the older systems it is grounded when stopped, and positive when running. Older alternators require exciting on startup via the D+ terminal. Its wired via a bulb (charging light) or in the case of a circuit controlled system a resistor in the 300Ω - 350Ω range.

If your vehicle starts each time, runs and starts when required I'd think the alternator output is fine.

Successful out come.

A healthy 14.3v going into the leisure battery while the engine is running.

Thanks lads for all the help with the trouble shooting. A multimeter is a motorhomes best friend.

After trying all your suggestions and determining that the CBE DS304sr unit was working correctly and the issue was upstream.

A little extra digging online and a review of a wiring diagram showed that there is a 3amp fuse between the d+ signal and the habitation electrics.

I was able to chase a cable back from the starter battery under the drivers seat up to the ignition. A little bit of dodgy wiring on a cable tap, reconnected it and secured it better.

That’s it until the next issue 😂
