I have to go to Cushendall Thursday afternoon, I'm thinking A1, M1 Lisburn / Belfast, M2 Ballymena, A43 Cushendall, returning same, towing a RIB.
any problems with that route?

Hi Martin that route sounds right, however regardless on the early part of your journey make sure that you finish the journey from Ballymena.
Use the A43 through Martinstown and then Cargin, after going through the village of Cargin go about a mile and take the B14 on your left and this takes you right into the centre of Cushendall.
Do not be worried about the B road as it is used by goods vehicles all the time.

I wouldn't go through Belfast. A1, then head for Belfast International, slight detour down M1, and then follow A26 all the way to Ballymena.
Cushendall is pretty much the same type of roads no matter what way you go after that so yeah A43.

If you havnt seen the North Antrim coast I would take the costal route. A bit twister but great scenery. If not then Allys route

Or you could cut off the A1 at Banbridge, Donaghcloney,Magheralin, Moira. That would keep you on your toes O-)

Martin the reason I advise you to take the B14 after Cargin is that if you keep on the A43 towards Cushendall /Waterfoot when you get to the coast road you will have to negotiate an overhead bridge which is quite tight and single file.
On your way back you will be coming around a corner to enter the bridge/tunnel and you will really be hopeing that no one else is coming the other way.
Glends of Antrim potato factory (lorries)always use the route I have suggested.

Thanks lads, I think the comboined route looks good, as it could be 5/6 pm reaching Belfast, so probably best avoided and on the way back we will be tugging a 6.5 mtr RIB.

If you are potentially hitting Belfast or wherever at 6pm then heading on to Cushendall you are going to be very late heading home as its about 1.5hours from Sprucefield (A1) and dark. I was going to suggest cutting across country from the A1 but that would be better in daylight

Thanks, we considered that, so we are going to get away about 2.30pm which should get us up in daylight, we are staying over to return on Friday morning.

I was passing near that area this morning so took a we detour to see if I could see you, there was a small camper sitting in the car park at the slipway but I knew it was not you.
Had a look in another couple of parking areas but then thought maybe you were not in the camper so headed on. Great that all went well and the weather was ok.

Saw that myself and the basin of water they shagged out the door into the carpark.
That's a pity, There was, 3 of us and needed a jeep to tow it back home so we stayed in the Meadows B&B, we went for a wee spin to have a look around around the bay about 10am, after that we were probably up in the yard getting ready for a run around the bay to check everything works, and then a tour of the yard.
They have one serious million pound 12 Mtr Rib ( two double berths +) as a show piece, work boat, powered by 3 Yanmar Landcruser engines combined about 1000hp,
