Priorité à Droite

While driving through rural France I came across an old French road rule Priorité à Droite meaning give way to vehicles from the right. I remember it when first coming to France years ago. I was driving along a main road and the car in front slammed on the brakes and let a bicycle come out from a side road. There was a solid white line across the main road which is the indicator. I also saw a crossroads with 4 stop lines at it and the same rule applies give way to vehicles from the right. It used to be the rule that people on the roundabouts had to give way to those coming on. It makes me realise why the French have invented the Angles Mort signs

Don’t forget about the one for giving way in the roundabout to vehicles entering it

I do believe that’s gone. Definitely gone on any roundabout I’ve been on in the last couple of weeks

The first time I went to the US the town I stayed in had a roundabout and cars on the roundabout gave way to cars coming on very strange 🙃

David, it doesn't happen now on roundabouts but look out for that white line across a main road at the mouth of a junction to the right I've come across a couple in the last few years mostly in the country

I knew that rule did apply but haven't come across it , but have come across a few crossroads in Wexford with 4 stop signs, so the French aren't the only one's with stupid signage,it happens in the wet south east as well 😄

Those 4 way stops are actually great. Everyone must stop. Great for blind cross roads….. and it’s not the wet south east…. It’s the soggy south east… thank you very much😬

Think it still applies on the roundabout around Arc de Triumph in Paris.

Dont know if there are any rules for the Arc de Triumph. I've been around it a few times and find the best way is to head to the middle and gradually move out. I've tried to stay on the outside and they just push you off at the next exit

I nearly wrote an old French guy off in Boulogne on my first trip to France couldn't understand why he was shouting and bawling ,luckily i was going fairly slow. Never really seen it anywhere else since.
