Eberspacher Heater

I found this diesel D5WS Eaberspacher heater under the MH, fitted onto tge Sprinter chassis beside the fuel tank, with pipes going forward ti the engine compartment. I'm in the process of getting English manuals, but in the mean time has anyone got any idea what is is actually used for and how is it controlled.

I believe it is to heat the engine in -° cold weather, some of the Google advice is that it only works when the engine is running.which would be a bit pointless. others say that it can be timed for 7 day operation but there is no such controls on this van
obviously I'm thinking if could be reconfigured to heat the habitation.

There is a 24v version on EBay for £795. Called easy start for boats and has a small digital control panel.

Looks very like the Eberspacher on a VW T4. There is a sensor on the VW so the heater works at -4 C or so. Can be tested by shorting the sensor switch with a bit of wire.

Looks very like the auxiliary heater that heats the coolant when temp is low.
They were fitted in the Ford Galaxy to assist heating and also to the BMW X5., they heat the coolant.
The Ford ones used to do in the bearings and screamed like a banshee, we unplugged them !

hi i have one fitted to my hymer on a sprinter 416 chassis anyway i also had no idea it was there or how it worked so heres my bit of research bot i could be wrong
firstly heres a youtube clip of the heater

heres a diagram of the lay out

it seems that its a heater for the coolant and has such in extreme weather maybe alps or Canada you could start engine but if then coming down off a mountain do damage to engine and and never build up any heat for engine or cab so this heats the coolant separately it works from your dash heater controls you probably have 3 round controls 1 for temp one for airflow direction and one for aircon and aux heater if you need any more info ill check mine (which does not work at moment ) but i will tinker with in the future ,its great finding these little interesting extra on a van youve bought
