Driveway parking Permission required ?

 ·

Since we bought our first motorhome, 8 years ago, we have parked it on our drive way. Recently a another house in the estate parked a 30 year old motorhome on their driveway and have spent the last four months turning their garden into an open workshop / scrap yard. Now the neighbours are looking for a way to remove the new eye sore. So the question is do you need planning permission to park a motorhome on your drive way( i.e. within your garden) I am based in Co. Meath.
Any help on the planning permission question will be helpful.

Can I keep a caravan / camper van or boat in my garden without
permission?

Yes, subject to:
1. Not more than 1 caravan / camper van or boat.
2. No commercial / advertising use.
3. Not used as a dwelling while stored.
4. Storage not greater than 9 months in any year.

If the camper is in roadworthy condition and is parked in your driveway its legal
But you cannot turn your driveway into a workshop

I say give the man a break if he’s trying to restore an old van.
Old Vans Matter!

Can someone not approach him and ask him how he’s getting on with the restoration and let it be known in a kind way that some of the neighbours are getting tetchy with the mess.
As said ‘Agree folks cos the law is expensive’

To be absolute certain you would need to see if there is anything in your actual deeds as these override those of the council.
e.g. mine tell me I cannot have a hedge of over 6 feet forward of the building line, and I cannot park a commercial vehicle on the drive in front of the house.
Not sure who would enforce these but might cause problems if I wanted to sell with a 8 foot hedge outside my house.

Check if you are residing in a managed estate which would make you a member of an Owners Management Company (OMC). As stated above, the ‘house rules’ of an OMC might impose further restrictions on what you can park. That would be stated in the OMCs Memorandum and Articles of association doc,

It's detailed in the Planning Act, it's the same country wide. It may however be interesting to understand what the difference between stored and parked might be?

No tax and insurance, could mean its stored

It'd certainly be worth arguing that point in court but I doubt anyone has ever been summonsed.
