Road from Thurles to Nenagh & Portumna

Hi all.

We're hoping to head for Portumna for the May weekend and was wondering if anyone has traveled the road from Thurles to Nenagh and on to Portumna. We'll be towing a boat so I'm looking for the best route. My alternative from Cork is to go to Limerick then up the motorway to Nenagh.

Cork to Thurles is motorway but I'd don't know what Thurles to Portumna is like.

Any advice from any quarter would be much appreciated.

Thanks
Denis

from memory the road from thurles to nenagh is rough enough in places, but it depends what side of cork you are leaving from,

if you were to go through limerick to nenagh, then you have about 17 miles of rough road, going through borrisokane and carrigahorrig,

terryglass (near carrigahorrig) a good spot to launch a boat from also and lots of campers park up by slip way, with short walk for the pint :fgrin:

enjoy portumna

Thanks Max.

Looks like Nenagh to Portumna is the worst bit whichever route I choose.
I better start google earthing!
