Schauldt LR1218 @€85 verses Schauldt LRM1218 @ €200 is it worth it to spend the extra money on the LRM (mppt) controller

Imo, the controller is worth replacing to mppt up to about 200 watts. After that, you are going to have power enough for a standard type set up ( 150-200 Ah of battery) Obviously if you are starring from scratch, or need to upgrade then an mppt is the best option. But that is a big jump in money, are you constrained to purchasing that make.

Practically everyone here swears by them. I have one myself, if you are a heavy user it will make a difference, if you are normally careful, I think the pwm works fine. I’m sure someone will be along with all sorts of percentages and test results, but your batteries will still get charged, just not quite as fast. My opinion

The LR1218 is only middling tbh Dave,

I have one and its only so so compared to the mppt one,
I have the same mppt one that Baguett has and Ally had, (think Panda has that one now?)
Get the mppt one as its worth the €100 odd quid in my opinion,

You have options from other brands a bit cheaper and equally as good if not better:

Votronic MPP 250 Duo Digital 15A 12V MPPT Charge Controller for two Batteries (125 EURO)
Votronic MPP 350 Duo Digital 21A 12V MPPT Charge Controller for two Batteries (160 EURO)

@karemart74 I bought the Votronic 250 Duo, it's doing a better job than the LR1218 and I can now add another 100w panel when the weather gets a bit warmer, thanks for advice
