To aire or not to Aire?

We took a spin over to Bantry this morning, enjoyed a good long walk around the bay etc. We were delighted to see three vans parked up in the quayside aire. A great facility and all credit to the local council etc.
As we walked further, we passed a van parked up, on levelling blocks, adjacent to the Supervalu and directly over the water from the aire.
I'm not passing judgement in any way, just interested in why anyone would park at the side of the road, opposite a supermarket overnight...when an aire with full facilities is just a few hundred yards away? How much less than ten euro would it have to be to make it a viable option as a safe secure overnight parking spot? Just asking!

I've seen the same in Ardmore and Carlingford, if we don't use the facilities we'll lose them, you do have to feel sorry for these poor people who can't afford a tenner, maybe we should start a charity to help them

Could never understand that mentality...I like to wild it but also like to use Aires when available. I guess he thought he was great saving a tenner...I love that Bantry Aire👍

Tony your question has been asked many times and there has been different views expressed.
In my opinion it is totally wrong to freeload in the vicinity of a purpose built parking area, after all there has been an investment put in place to offer up this facility and therefore a return is what will keep it there.
A free night away in a private or secluded area or out in the wild then is a totally different matter but for some the investment in purchasing the motorhome is where it ends, everything else should be free.

I think you will find that the Camper outside the Supermarket belongs to a certain ethnic minority....
They have a site next to the supermarket.

Actually, we were thinking that might be the case, in which case it's completely understandable as it's part of their culture. Or so they keep reminding us.
