Hopefully it will Jamie, now if the other Spanish route opens up (Cork-Vigo) it would at least offer more competition.

I would be very interested to see details of the Cork to Vigo ferry, prices and duration of the sailing. Vigo is closer to where I want to be in Spain and Portugal.
Apparently yellow flood warnings in Eastern Spain at the moment, we would have been in the middle of as we were due to be in Javea now. Lovely in Doonbeg today though.

Ferry to Dunkirk opens up access to BeNeLux, possibly better for heading to Italy too. Always good to see competition.

Irish Times article says 'freight and passengers'
But the DFDS announcement says The route will be serviced by three ferries, each with a capacity for up to 125 lorries and their drivers in Covid-19 safe single cabins.

So, unfortunately, it looks like regular passenger/tourist traffic will not be part of the offer.

Well if this new ferry takes haulage customers away from Stena and IF, then they may need us more and lower prices accordingly. Competition can only be good for us

They'll only take it off the Irish Sea routes mainly

That will all depend on pricing, and if Dunkirk appeals to hauliers more than Cherbourg or Roscoff. Also the fact that is 6 days a week will thin out congestion on other ferries

This is IF and Stena, they'll probably up their prices to try and make up for the lost business

Having used them during the summer as part of the landbridge which I booked through stena I can’t help wonder are they about to pull out of the dover routes and operate directly to Ireland instead all because of brexit

A trucker friend has said that a Dunkirk arrival is a very good option as following the 24 hours crossing (rest period) a 9 or10 hour driving period can be undertaken which will get a truck nearly as far as the south or east of Germany for example.
That's giving a total door to door time between Rosslare and say Stuttgart of about 34 hours.

I’m guessing this is tongue in cheek. If things work out as they are being planned in Rosslare, stena and IF will be lucky to get berths. It has been long recognised that they are fleecing customers. Believe me, they are not one bit happy with Rosslare opening up to new companies

More competition should equate to more attractive pricing structures..... but that monopoly will be difficult to break. But it’s all good news and hopefully we see a much needed bit of competition on the Irish routes.

Is it not like the airports do the ferry terminals not set a price for boats to dock so if a terminal is cheaper than the one down the road a ferry company will change

Well it’s not like there is much choice down here. Dublin, Rosslare, and Cork. That’s pretty much it.

we did have Dunlaoghaire but then the council managed to drive them out along with most of the small business.
