I have never been, come to think of it, haven’t been outa the north, in the van yet,but asking this ,,,,would dicks field be Ireland’s version of terifa I’ve seen a lot off people visiting both and both places seem like a bit of a Mecca ,if that’s how you spell terifa the very south of Spain I think. Just one of those wet day questions

It's closed at the moment, but in July /August you could have more than 150 vans there,,

Surely it's closed right now but we love going there in the winter months when it's nice and quiet. Dick (while a poor farmer) is an absolute legend and will talk your ears off :D

Nice little town, great walks over the bay.

Gets really, really busy in the summer, too busy for us.

5-6 hours does seem like a steep number in our lovely little emerald isle! You would definitely want o make a 3 or 4 day tour out of that :)

Yes , the Ardmore Cliff Walk is really good. They have put down a great new surface and fencing all along the route.

Waterford’s Tarifa

Tarifa is a Meca for the Kite surfer, and surfers like to bring their vans ..Along with some loose policing of overnight camping and a general laid back vibe with Africa only a few k away there is never a shortage of vans and motor homes in the area..

The amount of vans and motor homes at Dicks on a bank holiday weekend would be one similarity,

I have enjoyed my time at both locations

Would like to go sometime to either, hearing all the stories of people’s travels around spain or anywhere in Europe for that matter, would put you mad being restricted, after finally getting my first van in March still only to have 6 overnights in er is crazy, there simply hasn’t been a worse time to buy my first camper van , it would have been cheaper hiring a rolls Royce and staying in 5 star hotels for 9 months, someone asked on her were is the first place people would go givin the chance, I thought to myself tarifa it looks class and I’d love the idea of driving to I run out of road

And if you had hired the Rolls and stayed in the 5* hotels you’d have spent your money but only have memories to show for it. You still have your camper which probably hasn’t dropped in value since you bought it and you have plenty of time to use it in the future.
I have never been to Dick’s field but I think I’d like it.
I have been to Tarifa in a MH and didn’t like like it, whilst wind is great for windsurfing it’s not great for sleeping in a big white box. Plus the fish factory stinks.

There's a local hotelier not too far from Doonbeg who's just lost his part-time job and is due to be evicted from what he thought was his permanent home in January. He may be short on cash and willing to do a deal to allow motorhome parking in the hotel grounds. :D

I don't think so, about as far removed from your own place as you could get,
maybe mid week or over the winter, but on a busy weekend with the field and the static park full 🤔😱
That said you only live this life once.

On our last Summer visit to Dick's, we asked his son about Winter opening. He gave us the impression that they'd be staying open all year round.
We were thinking of a New Year's Eve visit ( no off-spring coming home this year 🙁) ....does anyone have any info on the current situation there?

I think you would have to give Dick a call to find out what he's doing

We decided to wait until nearer Christmas before getting in touch with Dick, as the travel situation seemed so uncertain. Sure enough, there'll be no festive camping this New Years Eve.... unless you know a good spot within 5k of your house!
