Help Folks

messing around installing a new tracker and I knocked off the wires to the step switch, no bang fizz oor funny smell but now the step wont budge either with the switch or even retract when starting the engine. Thought must have shorted the 5 pin relay so bought another but still the same checked the fuse in case without much hope (as there was power because the relay clicks when the step button is pressed for one way and buzzes when pressed for the other.
Have just found the installation manual on line so will study that later but one of you clever people will be able to tell be what I have done
Wont you ??? :-/

If your getting a buzzing and the motor won't operate, you may have blown or pulled the wires off the capacitor.

I doubt that there is a capacitor on that type of motor. Usually universal type motor. Power straight onto the windings Reverse polarity to reverse motor

Think you may be right having checked everything else guess it must be that, one ordered from E-Bay will let you know.

Ok so as a update
I made a right pigs ear of this
I had bugg**ed up not only the capacitor but also the relay not only once but twice.

When I pulled off the wires from the relay as the wires were super short to the up/down switch I also pulled those off (blind access until it was unscrewed.
I put two wires on the switch the wrong way round, the step worked fine until turned ignition key and the step didnt retract but a lovely smell of melting plastic instead,
So found what I had done very quickly (only took me three days) and as they say where I was dragged up "jobs a goodun"

Problem is now I don't have a reason to nip outside to do something on the van for a few minutes (that usually lasts a few hours or even several days)

All the best folks or at least the best you can get these days

David and Maureen.
