The orginal recording of [the wedding song] La Bamba in 1939.
The song features a simple verse-chorus form. Valens, who was proud of his Mexican heritage, was hesitant at first to merge "La Bamba" with rock and roll but then agreed.
In 2019, Valens' version was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry for being "culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant". It is also included in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame's list of 500 songs that were influential in shaping rock and roll.

Ronnie Tutt, longtime Elvis Presley drummer, has died aged 83. R.I.P.
Tutt played drums on behalf of the TCB Band for Elvis from 1969 until The King's death in 1977.
Afterwards, Tutt played with Johnny Cash, Kenny Rogers and Neil Diamond, among others, who even asked him to come and play drums for him.

Don Guess after he parted ways with Buddy Holly.
Buddy Holly and Don Guess parted ways in late 1956, Don recorded and released five singles under his own name which were Shirl-Lee (1958), I Fell In Love (1959), Hold Back The Night (1959), Bony Maronie (year unknown) and Imagination (1959).
All five singles are extremely rare as they sold in very small numbers and pretty much disappeared shortly after their releases.
At Clovis, New Mexico, Don Guess played guitar as studio musician on recordings by Faron Young, Terry Noland, Marty Robbins, Roy Orbison, Trini Lopez, Buddy Knox and Wanda Jackson among others.
A little later in his life, Don Guess left his musical career to pursue a brand new career in the insurance field.

Oct. 30, 1957: The Crickets with Buddy Holly perform with Rock ’n’ Roll Stars Show at the Edmonton Gardens.
A noisy but orderly crowd of 9,000 teenagers set an attendance record at the Edmonton Gardens when they packed the big arena for a three-hour rock ’n’ roll show. The crowd clapped, cheered, and milled about the aisles searching for pictures and autographs as the various members of the touring troupe of musicians, billed as “the Biggest Show of Stars for 1957,” appeared.

The sad story of "Pretty Woman' Claudette Frady Orbison.

Claudette Frady was sixteen years old when Roy Orbison, playing with The Teen Kings in Memphis, asked her to be his girlfriend. They stayed together in Sam Phillips’s home, sleeping in separate rooms, but married in the same year (1957)
Orbison's marriage to Claudette was sweet and sour. He was mostly away from home, so she was alone, bored and also depressed by the death of her best friend, country singer Patsy Cline and in 1963 Claudette wound up having an affair with the contractor that built their house in Tennessee.
In trying to save his marriage, Roy took her and their son Roy Dewayne with him for a tour in Britain with The Beatles. Even so, she found time to cheat and they split for awhile, reconciling not long afterward.
As OH PRETTY WOMAN was rising on the singles charts, Claudette started cheating again and they divorced. They were both miserable and remarried in 1966; but 2 months later, as Roy and Claudette were riding their motorcycles, she was hit by a semi-trailer truck and killed instantly; she was only 24 years old.

Sonny Curtis, Buddy Holly and Don Guess at Odesssa, Spring 1956.
Story told by Sonny Curtis
Spring 1956. This photo was taken in Odessa Texas of me, Buddy Holly and Don Guess (The Three Tunes bassist). We were booked on a tour of Oklahoma and Texas to open for Faron Young, Carl Perkins, Wanda Jackson, Sonny James, and Tommy Collins. We did our new Decca record, "Blue Days, Black Nights" and "Love Me." We also served as backup band for Sonny and Tommy. The tour ended in Odessa.
Later that year in August, as Buddy was playing more and more lead and developing that powerful style, I left the group and went on the road with Slim Whitman. It was rather a short-lived gig and I don't have any pictures, but it was a great experience. Slim was a real good ol' boy and his songs like "Indian Love Call" and "Rose Marie" were great fun to play.

# Keith Allison, Jerry Allison’s cousin, passed away November 17th- He played with The Crickets in 1965. R.I.P.

Keith Allison was a multi-talented performer who has not only pursued his own career as a songwriter, guitarist and vocalist, but has been called on over the years to add his special talents on other bands' recordings and tours as well as writing music scores for films and acting in both films and television shows.

# Buddy Holly's first recordings at the Nesman Studios Wichita Falls TX.

In late 1954 and April 1955 Buddy, Bob, Don Guess and Sonny Curtis first recorded some country style songs: "I Gambled My Heart", "Flower Of My Heart", "Soft Place In My Heart", "Door To My Heart", and "Gotta Get You Near Me Blues"at the Nesman Studios

Mid 1955, Buddy, Bob, Jerry Allison, and Larry recorded “Baby let’s play house” and “Down the line” {believed to be the first recording at Norman Petty, but they could not yet have met}.

The same year Sonny, Buddy, Larry and Jerry recorded two songs sung by Sonny: “I’ll miss my heart” and “Because you love me” and probably a second verssion of. “Down the line” and “You and I are through”

As Eddie Crandall requested 4 demos to be sent, Buddy, Sonny, Don and Jerry quickly got back into the studio. On Dec.7th they recorded "Baby Won't You Come Out Tonight", "Don't Come Back Knockin", "I Guess I Was Just A Fool", and "Love Me". These were submitted on acetate at KDAV and sent to Decca. The material impressed the executives enough to ask them to record in Nashville.

**Included an interview with the Nesman's, that you have to enlarge! Coloured photo of Buddy by Louis A Guerra.**
