Hi All,

Im interested in purchasing a camper van so I recently Called 2 different companies about getting insurance.
I just got my full Irish drivers license (I've been living abroad and held a full license in the US for 20 yrs.) I was basically told Im uninsurable because of 2 issues I don't have a full Irish license for 5 yrs. and I don't have 5 yrs no claims bonus, can anyone verify this? also Im wondering if theres any assistance I could get form joining a club?

Thanks,
Danny

Had the same issue for car insurance myself. Try insure my car.ie and chill. I had to pay insurance rate of a 17 year old... at 58... like 5000 euros for 1st year. It came down a lot in the second year.

Well if you are in the south, then the only two companies in town would be Stuart’s and Dolmens. I just checked Stuart’s FAQ on their website and that seems to verify the requirements you say. That’s unfortunate for you. Perhaps you have a family member who has held an Irish driving license for 5 years, who could put the insurance in his name and you as a named driver?

That would have to be open drive and
they would also have to be on the logbook as the owner. and over 25.

There usual thing is Owner, Spouse and child.
Have you got a car policy? did you not go trough the same rigmarole.

Good point.

Each insurer can decide its own policy on these matters, e.g. over 25s only, female only. There are a lot more car insurers on the market so I would bet it is a lot easier to qualify for car insurance.
