We were there from Sunday evening to Wednesday morning last week and the barrier was up all the time, maybe it's just a weekend thing

Oops I did it again!
Leaving this morning and the barrier went down even before I had the handbrake off and there was a car behind me. I put my head down on the steering wheel and wondered would crying help. A woman driving in got out of her car and said to me get ready to go and she popped a token in for me I was revving the engine and away I went shouting thanks so much.
Good Samaritans pop up everywhere
The Marina is a great place but I can't cope with the barrier at all so can't see me going back. Unless I have someone with me to get me out and that is not likely. It is a pity as it is a grand place

😂😂
Sorry Geri, but that’s hilarious.
I can see the headlines.
Woman stuck in Carlingford for 24 hours as barrier was too fast.
I’m sorry.
I’m sure the guys that work there would help you out

From Johnny,

Quote
Hi Aly! Thanks for the heads up.

We only use the barrier now on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 9am to 5pm each day. This is to save a bit of parking space for Motorhomers, customers of the cafe, customers of the Marina and customers of the apartments.

We can adjust the timing on the barrier - but we find that when we slow it down too much, we get a lot of tailgating from cars who are parked.

There is a safety loop on the ground under the barrier. There is no risk of the barrier coming down on a van.

Ideally, we would have liked one of those side scan lasers that detects when a vehicle has passed the barrier, and then loweres it - but - we get a lot of cars with boats on trailers at the Marina. The safety loop in the ground was the best option for us.

I'm sorry to hear that someone is nervous or put off by the barrier! We can hold the barrier up for people when they drive out! We do it for large vehicles all the time. Ask them to come in to the office the next time they're leaving and we'll come and open it for them.

In fairness, the people at the Marina, including the bar people, are all sound out

Having been there now on a couple occasions we could not speak highly enough of everyone associated with it.
When we went into the restaurant I had reservations about some of the spicey food but the waitress could not have been more helpful.
She advised me on several issues and I had a lovely meal and will be back.

The people running the restaurant and bar now, are far superior than the first time I visited. There wasn’t anything bad per say with the original people, it’s just that these people are better imo.

If the office is closed you can pay up at the bar, or just pay in the office the next morning.

This safe parking is provided and we should use it and not make a nuisance of ourselves in the town

It’s being well used, very popular this weekend, couldn’t fit all the vans into one photo:

The harbour wall fairly full too:

Top photo, good to see. Bottom photo, bad all it will achieve is bad publicity and antagonism towards motorhomes. If a place is crowded, move on. If you'r going to be a hindrance to others, park elsewhere. I know I'm preaching to the converted here but remember you can always come back to a place if it's too crowded on the first visit. A working harbour is no place to park or spend the night.

We stopped in Mullaghmore over the July hollidays and parked in the hotel car park for a small charge,by the end of the night there were 5 other motorhomes parked with us.
Loads more room but rather than pay the street was lined with motorhomes and some sticking well out into the road.
If we do not support the businesses that are offering us facilities then how can we persuade others to open for us?

It’s just some people rather than some motorhomers. It is alarming to see that lower photo.

I was at Gosford (Armagh) again for the day today and took the van. Got a great spot to over hang but it got very busy towards late afternoon. I could see all the cones and tape they have to keep cars off the grass and one car parked completely blocking the exit of an over flow car park so I had to go out the wrong way towards the one way arrow so I got some funny looks but it was the only way out.

When pulling back into the main road I noticed anywhere there wasn’t a cone blocking a space on the hard shoulder outside sure enough there was a car sitting in it so they could walk in rather than pay the £5. Tight arses.
